Playing the occasional club gig just isn’t cutting it for twenty-two-year-old cellist Skyler Canby, who’s trying to support herself and her mother back home in Kentucky. Persuaded by her best friend Beth to accompany her on an audition for the first feature film launched by Blackwood Entertainment, she figures why not? Beth’s a shoe-in for the lead, but maybe Skyler’s newly dyed pink hair will help her stand out enough to score a small speaking part.

Never in her wildest dreams does Skyler imagine she’ll land the lead role or that she’ll have her shoes knocked off her feet by the kiss her audition partner, Grey Blackwood, plants on her—a kiss that feels very real and not at all “acted. ”

After throwing a party that causes thousands of dollars of damage to his older brother’s home, reckless musician Grey Blackwood gets roped into working off his debt on the set of his CEO brother’s newest project. Grey spends his days fetching coffee and doing odd jobs around the studio, but he lives for nights when he performs with his band. He knows if he can stay focused, success as a singer is just around the corner. But that’s tough with a distracting pink-haired girl occupying his every waking thought.

Skyler and Grey have every reason to resist each other. But, like a song neither of them can get out of their minds, they have no choice but to go where the music takes them.

I am so sad to have to say goodbye to the Boomerang Series, I have loved every page of it! In the series conclusion we have Grey, Adam’s younger brother, and Skyler, one of Mia’s roommates forging their path to a happily ever after. Grey has definitely been down on his luck and especially down when his brother comes home to a very, very, trashed home. With the amount of damage done to Adam’s place he employs Grey at Boomerang until he can pay off the cleaning bill. Which lands him right in the Boomerang studios having to read lines with actresses auditioning for a leading role. This then brings us to Skyler, who is finally putting her acting classes to use and trying out for the leading role in the movie to help support herself and her family back home. Skyler has a big heart and a tendency to put others before herself.

I’m not going to lie to you, even though I loved this book, Grey and Skyler both, it was definitely the most frustrating of the three. There was a friendship that was built between Grey and Skyler first, even though their chemistry was seeping off the pages from the moment they met. Skyler had her reservations about Grey, he was young, a musician, and clearly not responsible if he was having to work off a cleaning bill. And you know… fighting your feelings only makes them more intense, and your readers more frustrated, I need the kisses and the fights, actually not the fights, let’s skip those and just do the kisses. Then we had my favorite person ever introduced, the leading man to the movie, Garrett. I’m pretty sure this shouldn’t be the last book, and Garrett should get one, great sidekick for Grey. Both of our characters go through some pretty heavy stuff in this book, it helps us see their soul, their determination, and how much they needed to go through some of this stuff to become the person they needed to be. You have to go through some bad to truly appreciate the good.

So even though I had my frustrating moments, I wouldn’t take back a single second reading this series. I’m sad it’s the end, and hope for more, and if you haven’t read The Boomerang series and love New Adult, something is wrong with you. That might’ve been harsh, but do yourself a favor and pick these up! Boomerang, Rebound, and Bounce are books you definitely don’t want to miss out on.

Book Review: Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman

Vengeance Road
Author: Erin Bowman
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Historical Fiction
Released: September 1st 2015

When Kate Thompson’s father is killed by the notorious Rose Riders for a mysterious journal that reveals the secret location of a gold mine, the eighteen-year-old disguises herself as a boy and takes to the gritty plains looking for answers and justice. What she finds are devious strangers, dust storms, and a pair of brothers who refuse to quit riding in her shadow. But as Kate gets closer to the secrets about her family, she gets closer to the truth about herself and must decide if there's room for love in a heart so full of hate.

In the spirit of True Grit, the cutthroat days of the Wild West come to life for a new generation.

When I first heard Erin is writing a new book, my face lit up. I adore her Taken series. Not only does this series have amazing covers, but the story is interesting with action packed scenes. With this said, I have to say I did not find Vengeance Road as amazing as her series. The story is okay but it is not for me.

Kate’s father was murder and she is seeking revenge. On her road of vengeance, she meets two brothers. Trying to stay out of trouble and on track, she deceived them by telling them “his” name is Nate. The brothers advise Nate it is dangerous to travel alone and they decide to accompany him. These three form some type of brotherly bond. Until they discover she is actually a girl.

Although the book deals with tough topics, I found the pacing slow. Which was my biggest issue. There were some scenes with actions, but overall, I just found the pacing slow. Another issue I had is the fact that I couldn’t connect with Kate. Honestly, I tried to feel her pain, but sometimes I couldn’t deal with her actions. There is a twist that I actually liked but it wasn’t shocking.

Overall, the story was okay. It has its moments but if you don't like the Western genre then I wouldn’t recommend this book. I tried but I was not really engaged. If you want to give it a try, go for it! Maybe you will like it.

It's A Muggle Monday Recommendation!

We are not wizards or witches, but muggles. We don't live in a magical world... Hogwarts is not home. But don't let this put you down. We don't need magic to transform our world. We have thousands lives to explore and dystopian worlds to travels. From the words of JK Rowling, "The stories we love the best live in us forever".

It's a Muggle Monday Recommendation is a new weekly meme hosted by Once Upon a Twilight in hope that this story will cast a spell over you and live with you forever.

This week is two of fellow reviewers, Shannon and Leydy's, favorite books. And they are insisting that everyone read it - they have been on me to read this book for a while as well. And it is dutifully on my TBR list!

Honestly though, the cover is beautiful enough to make me want to read it ASAP!
