Pages: 292 Hardcover
Reading Level: YA

Summary: Welcome to York, England: the most haunted city in the world.

Miranda Tennant arrives in York with a terrible, tragic secret. She is eager to lose herself amid the quaint shops, hoping she won’t run into the many ghosts who supposedly roam the cobblestone streets. Then she meets Nick, an intense, dark-eyed boy who knows all of York’s hidden places and histories. Miranda wonders if Nick is falling for her, but she is distracted by another boy -- one even more handsome and mysterious than Nick. He lives in the house across from Miranda and seems desperate to send her some sort of message. Could this boy be one of York’s haunted souls?

Soon, Miranda realizes that something dangerous -- and deadly -- is being planned. And she may have to face the darkest part of herself in order to unravel the mystery -- and find redemption. (via Big Honcho Media)

There are times in the blogging world I become very excited and grateful. This would be one of those times. If Big Honcho Media would not have contacted me about Dark Souls, I don't think I would have heard or read the book. So it makes me very happy that they did and I was able to read this haunting tale. Big Honcho has now made Paula Morris one of the authors I will follow and see and read the books that get published. I've already bought Ruined by Paula Morris as well to read very soon.

Dark Souls is a spine-chilling haunting tale set in such a amazing place. The novel takes place in York, England. I know thanks to Dark Souls would love to visit York at some point in my life. The way Paula wrote and describes each setting and pace in the book, you immediately connect with the setting. If I was rating the book just on location and descriptions I would give it 10 trees not 5. For the duration of the book, you are transport away to the cobblestones and Gates. Then to add to the setting, Paula also gives us the reader historical background on York. You will be magnetized!

Dark Souls is the story of Miranda, a young girl that was involved in a horrible car accident that her brother was the driver and she looses her friend. The night of the accident Miranda sees her friend but she is not alive, she sees the ghost of her friend walking out to the corn fields. Miranda cant believe she has just witness a ghost. Miranda and her brother Rob both have emotional demons they are battling after the accident and their parents to deice to take them on a vacation/work trip to York, England. They hope this will help clear their minds possibly. Will this help the teens get over their suffering? What about the ghost that Miranda now sees or thinks she sees.

In York when you arrive it seems that you have traveled back in time. Miranda thought she would be getting away from the ghost she is seeing, but didn't realized that York is consider one of the highest ranking places for ghost and spirits. Miranda meets Nick, which Nick has his own demons haunting him. They both share one thing in common though, they can both see ghost. Nick begins to help Miranda understand how some ghost work. Now will Miranda fall perhaps for the mysterious Nick or will she fall for the beautiful young man across from her window. The trouble with the young man in the window in front of her is that he is a ghost. She can't help though to be drawn to him. What will Miranda do? Of course that's not all Miranda has to worry about, strange incidents begin to happen around town and closely related to Miranda and her brother. Will York's history intertwine with present day York and Miranda? Will history repeat itself? You will have to pick up Dark Souls to find out, because I'm not telling.

Even though Dark Souls is a perfect book to read during Halloween time, I wouldn't wait till them to read it. The twist and turns that Paula gives us in the pages of Dark Souls are worth picking up a copy today.  As I mentioned at the beginning I've already purchased another book by Paula called Ruined and can't wait to be able to read it as well. Paula also mentions in her website that book 3 of the Haunted City Series will be based in Rome and published in 2013. Ruined is based in New Orleans.

Now here is a bonus to the review. Thanks to Big Honcho Media two readers have a chance of winning each their own copy of Dark Souls. Great right? Good luck to you all and a Big Thank you to Big Honcho Media.
