Summary: (from goodreads) Juliette hasn't touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette's touch is fatal. As long as she doesn't hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don't fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war-- and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she's exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

In this electrifying debut, Tahereh Mafi presents a world as riveting as The Hunger Games and a superhero story as thrilling as The X-Men. Full of pulse-pounding romance, intoxicating villainy, and high-stakes choices, Shatter Me is a fresh and original dystopian novel—with a paranormal twist—that will leave readers anxiously awaiting its sequel.

Joshua's review on the book portion:
Superheroes are usually a beloved figure seen by our culture, they our showered with love and praise by the people. Locked in a cell and seen as a human monster is not how most are treated, yet in Shatter Me, a lost hero is degraded to this status. Taherah Mafi writes an excitingly raw book that galvanizes this genre of fiction to all types of people. Her style is sort of breathless in a way that action and emotion never stops. The book flows so well that it won’t take long before you’ve finished.

Juliette is a girl whose whole life has been shrouded by fear. She is born with the ability to kill, simply with the touch of her bare skin. With parents that hate her, she is captured without fuss and placed in a cell where she has no human contact for almost a year. Suddenly, a cellmate is thrust into her life sending her on unexpectedly and dizzying journey. As she heads out she learns about the world and the changes it has undergone. Filled with new found courage she starts to see her ability as a gift rather than a curse. Filled with emotion, action, and everything that makes a book great, Shatter Me is a book that should be on everyone’s Christmas list.

Yara's review on audio book portion:
Shatter Me moved me in so many ways. Kate Simses is AMAZING as a reader. I will listen to any book she reads in the future. The way she portrayed Juliette, just leaves you breathless. I can't put in to words the kind of response I had listening to Shatter Me. The intensity of Juliette is captured to a perfection by Kate while she reads. I would have love to been present when she recorded the audio. In the book you see that the character Juliette writes in her book, she even scratches out lines. How Harper portrayed that in the audio is genius, you can hear when the pencil scratches out the line so clearly and with what strength. Kate also does a very good job reading all the other characters, even the male POVs, especially Adam. The chemistry between Juliette and Adam when listening to it, you just want to jump in the book and help them out. So much emotion is felt , you heart is racing, your mouth is dry and you have fear of whats to come. This is all thanks to how Kate read Shatter Me. I began to read the book and hod a bit of a hard time grasping it at first, so I passed it along to Joshua to read instead. Then when I was given the opportunity to listen to Shatter Me, i said sure Ill try it again. THAT WAS THE SMARTEST BEST DECISION I HAVE MADE. I will definitely be listening to the next installment in this series. Tahereh Mafi's world building is EPIC. Shatter Me is a must-read for everyone!!!!!!
