Summary: (from goodreads) "I don't do patrols, I don't go hunting, I just stick close to you. You live your life. I'll keep you safe," Tamani said, sweeping a lock of hair from her face. "Or die trying."

Laurel hasn't seen Tamani since she begged him to let her go last year. Though her heart still aches, Laurel is confident that David was the right choice.

But just as life returns to normal, Laurel realizes that a hidden enemy lies in wait. Once again, Laurel must turn to Tamani to protect and guide her, for the danger that now threatens Avalon is one that no faerie thought would ever be possible. And for the first time, Laurel cannot be sure that her side will prevail.

The role of a reviewer, doesn’t always lend to reading a book in a series, in the order that they are written. In an effort to provide myself background before reading a book out of sequence, I immerse myself into reviews and summaries on the previous books in the series, in order to give me a glimpse of the storyline, so that I may provide a thorough reflection of the novel.

In the case of Illusions, by Aprilynne Pike, I will be speaking souly in regards to the audio presentation, as a review in this case of the novel itself would not be appropriate. The story was performed by Mandy Siegfried. It was truly a struggle to get through the world of fairies and trolls in the audio medium. I’m eager to read more about Laurel and Tamani, however the performance of the novel was extremely frustrating. Although the voice for Laurel was appropriate, the voice for Tamani, did not match his role and characteristics in the book. A hint of Tamani’s Scottish accent was present, however the high pitch and fuzzy tone of his character throughout, lend to a slight feminine tone, which I found very distracting when listening to. Tamani holds a major role in the novel as a protector, a protector of Laural. The voice did not match the role.

In conclusion, for me, sometimes books on my Kindle, can get mixed in the shuffle, and miss being read. Thank goodness, Wings, the first book in the series is already purchased, downloaded, and ready for me to read. I’ll have to give this series another try. However, the best part will be, that I’ll be the creator of the voices in this new world of fairies and trolls.

  1. The first two books in the series are pretty good. The world building is the best part for me anyway. I haven't had the chance to get to Illusions yet but reading them in order could definitely improve your thoughts on the series.
