Summary: (from goodreads) An all-expenses paid trip to Cancun for spring break? It wasn't exactly a hard sell for Leigh, Eva, Gia and Joy, frenemies from Arizona Southern University. But all is not well in the land of silver or lead. Soon after arriving, Leigh and the girls stumble upon some cartel carnage—a bloodbath of debauchery that makes even their wildest desert party seem tame.

Instead of doing the proper thing, like contacting the authorities, the girls go down the rabbit hole in this tale of sex, lies and bloodshed. It’s all fun and games until they make the acquaintance of Guero, a cartel kingpin who is none too pleased with their newfound lust for blood money.

These perky coeds aren’t on campus anymore, and after Guero lets them know just how serious he is, they make a run for the border no one will ever forget.

I read this book without knowing what it was about and my first thought was it was going to be about snobby college girls being awfully mean but for some reason I had to find out more. The more I read the more I had to know what was going to happen and before I knew it the story quickly spiraled into this crazy action-filled and suspenseful book. I couldn’t put it down! It blew my mind! L.C. Kanon did a great job keeping me interested.

The main characters, Gia, Joy, Eva and Leigh, set off to Mexico for spring break. Gia is a very rich girl and usually gets what she wants so the other girls follow her lead in fear they will be humiliated like everybody else Gia looses interest in. The book starts with Gia being mad at Eva and is from the beginning very mean and short with the poor girl. Joy is the one Gia won’t let leave her side while Leigh is trying to stay out of the whole debacle. Eva and Leigh become inseparable and are tricked by the other two girls which lead into a world of trouble. Not a spring break they intended on, that’s for sure. They accidentally stumble upon members of a few Mexican drug cartels, have to do some stealing and witness murder. Will they all come back to the states alive?

Spring Break was an excellent read. I couldn’t find myself wanting to put it down. I had to know what was going to happen next. This is definitely for older young adults because of the violence and some sexual content. It was an easy book to read but there was one thing that I can’t seem to wrap my mind around and didn’t quite understand. That had to do with Leigh’s sister. There wasn’t enough information for me to decipher what exactly went on but other than that the book was amazing.

About the Author: LC Kanon is a native of Chicago, Illinois and has lived and worked in various locations across the country. A first-time author, LC was driven to write after reading far too many thrillers with damsels in distress. Compelled to meld the drama of chick lit with action and suspense, LC began writing and never stopped. Her first book, "Spring Break," mixes coeds and cartels in a bloody romp through Mexico. When she's not writing, LC enjoys watching kung fu, taking long drives, and walking along sandy beaches.
