Find out what happens when you fall for your best friend's worst enemy in this timeless and hilarious story of a forbidden first love and forever friendship.

Lucy can't wait to spend the summer at the lake with her best friend, Mikayla. But when Jackson, the boy she's been avoiding ever since he rejected her, reappears in her life, Lucy wonders if this summer to remember is one she'd rather forget.

Mikayla's never had much luck talking to boys, but when she (literally) runs into the cutest guy she's ever seen, and sparks fly, she thinks things might be looking up...until she realizes the adorable stranger is the same boy who broke her best friend's heart.

As things begin to heat up between Mikayla and the one guy she should avoid, will Lucy be able to keep her cool or will the girls' perfect summer turn into one hot mess?

Catherine Clark, the author of beach-read favorites Maine Squeeze and Love and Other Things I'm Bad At, has once again crafted a hilarious and spot-on portrayal of what it's really like to be a teenager. Readers will love this irreverent coming-of-age story…and will be breathlessly turning the pages to find out what happens next.

At a Glance:
How To Meet Boys, isn’t this a catchy title? It was for me.

Cover:
The cover is fabulous. I love it so much. The couple portraits such chemistry… It is such a stunning moment to capture.

Romance:
We get very little romance because Lucy doesn’t like Jackson and Mikayla doesn’t want to hurt Lucy’s feeling… but does. Get where I am going? There are very little part of swooning but the drama just kills the buzz.

Something I loved:
A summer job at a member’s club sounds like fun, right? That’s the reason why everyone wants to spend their summer time there. I always wish to spend time there. It is the perfect place to spend your summer time. I also loved Lucy’s grandparents and their “Apple” store. They were pretty funny and proud of owning that store… and getting people confuse with the electronic store “Apple”.

Would I recommend it?:
How to Meet Boys is told from Lucy and Mikayla’s point of view. We read about each other thoughts and feelings. I couldn't identify with either of them. But I really had a hard time liking Lucy.

Lucy couldn't be happy for her best friend, Mikayla. Knowing that Mikayla always had issues with boys and the one boy she meets no issues to speak to, Jackson, she doesn't approve of. Lucy held a grudge on Jackson because he “spread rumors” when they were both in seventh grade. I was so disappointed in this book. I just couldn’t find a way to like it. It was too much middle school drama. I just wanted to yell to Lucy to GET OVER! The past is the past. No need to dwell on it. I just couldn't deal with her tantrum. Maybe if Lucy kept to her word to Lucy, maybe I would have enjoyed it more. Maybe the two of them would've enjoyed their summer.

  1. Sounds odd that a book which at first glance (cover, title, blurb) seems to be all about the love doesn't have a lot of romance going on. Great review, Leydy. I love how you broke it up into categories.

  2. I've been on the fence about this one because I wasn't sure if I would end up hating the best friends liking the same guy storyline.
