Michael Grant, author of the New York Times bestselling Gone series, has created a powerful and brilliant narrative that examines the nature of good and evil in every human.

Mara wakes in a field of dead grass, a heavy mist pressing down on her. She is terrified, afraid that she is dead. Then a beautiful young man dressed in black appears. He calls himself Messenger of Fear.

This boy is able to move effortlessly through space and time. He also sees the darkness in human hearts. He sees the evils done: the destructive lies, the cruelty, the bullying, the violence. And if the world does not bring justice to those who do evil, he will. He offers the wicked a game. If they win, they go free. If they lose, they will live their greatest fear. Either way, their sanity will be challenged.

It is a world of fair but harsh justice. Of retribution and redemption. And mystery. Why was Mara chosen to be the Messenger’s apprentice? What has she done to deserve this terrible fate? She won’t find out until three of the wicked receive justice. And when she does, she will be shattered.

I will try my best not to spoil this book because it doesn’t come out until September. But let me tell you something, I was hooked from the beginning. This is my first time ever reading a book of Michael Grant and it won’t be my last! It was great. I couldn’t put this book down. But beware, this book is pretty hardcore, so if you don’t like dark novels dealing with violent, then you should be careful.

Honestly, when I first started this book, my first thought was (only because I always relate one story with another): this will be like A Christmas Carol. You know the movie we all watch when is Christmas time in which on Christmas Eve, Mr. Scrooge is visited by three ghosts? Yup, that’s one. Only that this Messenger of Fear means serious business. If the person is wicked, he will find them. He will show evil doings, he will test and judge.  He will play a wicked game, if the person wins, he/she is free, but if they lose, well they will live with consequences.

And Mara is next. She will have to face the Messenger of Fear. With no memories, nowhere to go, she follows him with no option. The Messenger of Fear shows her three different stories with heartbreaking endings. This is when Mara realized she is being tested. Will she win or lose?

Messenger of Fear is about the good and the evil of this world. It shows how cruel humans can be. Even though this may seem brutal, the Messenger of Fear brings justice, just in a different way. The book will teach you about the importance of life. To be careful of the way you treat people. To be kind in this malicious world.

Honestly, I enjoyed this book. It was such a page turner. With amazing writing and an astonishing story, I highly recommend that you pick up this book this upcoming September!
