Summary: (from goodreads) Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong.
Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught every one's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs. She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.
Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door. He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back. Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever. She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove. They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.
Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price. And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

This was my first book I have read by Amanda Hocking and I have to say, I really love her writing. Wake is the first book in the Watersong series and it is an amazing first book. I have read other books about sirens and Wake is my favorite by far. First I want to say that I absolutely LOVE the cover. I was at the store the other day and saw the final book cover and it was even better than the ARC that I have. The water had this cool effect that made it almost look 3D -super cool!
Wake is a story about two sisters, Gemma and Harper, who are being raised by their father. Their mother is in a nursing home after suffering brain injuries from a horrific car accident. Although she is totally functional, she has the mentality of a teenager and has a hard time remembering things, even her daughters and husband's names. They live in a small coastal town where their father works on the docks. Harper having to grow up and feeling the need to care for her younger sister and her father, has pretty much put her social life on hold. Her only real friend is her next door neighbor, Alex. Gemma on the other hand is as normal as any teenager could be. She is an amazing swimmer and hopes to go to the Olympics someday. Gemma has had a crush on Alex for as long as she can remember and now Alex is showing interest in her. Then everything changes when three drop dead gorgeous girls show up. No one knows where they came from or who they are. Now all of a sudden, young guys are reported missing and people start getting worried. Harper and Gemma have a bad feeling about the "new girls", especially when they start stalking Gemma. Then one night while Gemma was out swimming in the Bay she sees them in the cove and is strangely pulled to them. The next thing you know, Harper finds Gemma on shore and Gemma can't remember how she got there.
Wake was a great read and I can't wait for the second installment of the Watersong series.
