Do you have a favorite quote from a book?

I have many quotes I absolutely love from books I have read thought out the years. If I had to sit here and name them off, the days would end and I would still be mentioning quotes. Of course there is one book series that stands out because the series has soooo many quotes in it that I truly swoon over. That series you are all familiar with is the Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer. SOme of the quotes I love from this series have even made it to the window of my car at one point. It became the Twilight SUV. So Ill share with you my favorites from the series.

What's more Important: Good Writing? Or a Good Story?

 Jenny's Answer:

Wow that's a tough question, especially if you have to choose one or the other. Honestly, I think both are a key element in order to make a good book. But if I had to choose, I would say Good Writing. My reason would be because, even if a book is outstanding, if you have difficulty reading it, then you'll have difficulty understanding it and therefore making a book not worth your time. I like a book to entrap me from the very beginning and if it does and there's a problem with the writing, where I have to re read sections to understand them, that just frustrates me and I'll have to stop reading it. 

Ana's Answer: 

I would have to say a good story. To me if the story is good, i can overlook the bad writing. Although the bad writing can get a little distracting at times. Now if the book is written perfectly and the story is just horrible, I wouldn't be able to get into the story and I would just quit reading it, but after the 100 page mark of course. I always like to give books a chance.

Trudy's Answer:

In my case I think if you have good writing, you can turn a not so good story into a good one.

Tammy's Answer:

I'd rather have a good story. Although I am a usually stickler for good grammar, punctuation and spelling, I love stories that take me away from reality so I don't pay much attention to those things if the story can become my alternate reality for a while.

Monica's Answer:


This one is a toughie. I do have one particular book in mind, it has the most amazing story line but the writing, oh goodness just needs some work. But I continue to read the series because of the story line and not the writing style. I feel like the story is everything. The writing could use improvement and I probably criticize it often but I would definitely read the next in a series if the story was amazing.

All other thing being equal, would you rather read a book that’s hard/challenging/rewarding or light/enjoyable/easy?

Jenny's Answer:
Well It really depends on my mood. If I have a chance to read an easy book that I know I can enjoy quickly, then I would usually read those types, at night, while my daughter and husband are sound a sleep. However, for hard/challenging books I rather leave to times that I can actually sit for a long period of time and concentrate to enjoy the book, not running around after my daughter or making supper for my husband. So like I said, It really just depends on my mood and the timing.

Tammy's Answer:
Since my life is so challenging right now I like to read to escape all that, so I vote for the light and easy option.

Yara's Answer:

I have to pick both. I have to change up what I'm reading from time to time. If I read to much fluffy and don't change it to something different eventually I will get bored. Also depends on my mood and stuff going on in my life at that moment.

What’s the hardest/most challenging book you’ve ever read? Was it worth the effort? Did you read it by choice or was it an assignment/obligation?

Yara's Answer:

I will say the hardest book to read was Lovely Bones. I just could not get through page after page. It was some what torture for me until I finally just gave up on the book. Then when I saw the movie, it didn't help the

 book case at all. I didn't like either. That's when I started my 50-100 page test on books. 

Jenny's Answer:

The hardest, most challenging book I'd say I had to read would have to be Almost Human, The First Trilogy. In my opinion the first two books were the most challenging because they took so long to begin with the actual story. The same scenario was being repeated several times leaving me feeling as 
if the book was being prolonged to make more pages. However, as I finished these two books and started the third book in the trilogy i was excited to find that the third book was not at all like the first two and i actually enjoyed reading it. I'd say it was worth the effort because at the end, like I said I really enjoyed the last book. However, I could have gone with out such lengthy stories in the first two. I read it by choice but felt it was my obligation to the author to give her my most honest opinion and therefore, forced me to finish the book.

Ana's Answer: 
The most challenging book I have read I think would have to be Forbidden by Tabitha Suzuma. I had to read it because it was for a review and I was a little skeptical because it dealt with a taboo topic, incest. But I am
 glad I read it cause it was well worth it and nothing like what I expected! It has to be one of the best books I have ever read!!

If you could get a sequel for any book, what would it be?

Yara's Answer:

This answer is a simple one for me. I would love to read a sequel to Shadow Hills by Anastasia Hopcus. Shadow Hills leaves so much unanswered and I know it can be a great series. I hope that one day Anastasia will finally be able to share with us a second book. She write such a gripping first book. 

Now the question is for a sequel, but I would also love to read either companion books or a new series branched out from The Twilight Saga. There are so many characters in that series that would make for a great new series. 

Monica's Answer:

Probably the Harry Potter series. I grew up with those books and it was SO sad seeing them end. Not having more books for that series is very saddening. I would love to hear stories even about like just day to day life of the Potters or the Weasleys. Or even books about the kids and their shenanigans. I would also like to add of course the Twilight Series :)

What’s the oddest book you've ever read? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it make you think?

Monica's Answer: 

The oddest book I've ever read was maybe Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger. We read it for book club and it was a choice by one of the other girls in the club, she knows Audrey from The Time Traveler's Wife. So I went into reading the book thinking of course I'll love this. Wrong.. lol. It was weird and at times slightly disturbing with the way she just puts everything together. Its about this aunt who dies and has her twin nieces move into her apt and then one ends up being able to see her. Its .. very odd, I'm not all together sure if I liked it or not. If I did like it at all it was before the end of the book, it killed it. She ended the book in such a way that made the other things that happened seem meaningless. Ahh I'm not sure if I liked it or not still. Definitely made me think though.

Yara's Answer:
I will have to say for it was when I picked up The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. This was before the movie came out. Honestly I think I can say I hated this book. The book was hard for me to read and get into and understand. The way the author kept jumping forward and back, and just how she was murdered didn't help me at all in liking this book. It was just disturbing, no other explanation really needed.

Yara's Answer: Reading aloud is great especially when you have young children that have yet to learn to read. It begins to get them interested in books. Also playing audio books while reading the book helps children grasp the story better. Speaking of audio books, I just recently started to listen to them. Its so wonderful to hear the reader's voice express all the characters in the book. Its slower then reading a book but great in a different way.

What are you reading now? Would you recommend it? And what’s next?

Yara's Answer: Right now I am reading Ashes by Ilsa J. Bick. This book was released this Tuesday on the 6th from EgmontUSA. If you haven't heard about it yet, well now you will. my review should be up on Monday the 12th. I recommend it to anyone that likes that book that you forget to breathe while reading. Ashes is that book. I have about 100 pages left and it's been one heck of a ride. I have talk to the book like its going to talk back to me. Seriously pick this Post Apocalyptic book up now. 

What will I be reading next is a book called Crossroads by Mary Ting. Its for a blog tour coming up hosted by  Late Bloomer online.

Sometimes I feel like the only person I know who finds reading history fascinating. It’s so full of amazing-yet-true stories of people driven to the edge and how they reacted to it. I keep telling friends that a good history book (as opposed to some of those textbooks in school that are all lists and dates) does everything a good novel does–it grips you with real characters doing amazing things.

Am I REALLY the only person who feels this way? When is the last time you read a history book? Historical biography? You know, something that took place in the past but was REAL.

Yara's Answer: I honestly can't remember the last time I read a history book. It was probably back in college and because I had to. History books are not the kind of book I will pick up to read for fun. If I have questions or want to know something about the past I will most likely Google the information or check on Wikipedia.

What book do you pick up?

Yara's Answer: 

This question is easy, I would choose basically anything written by Stephanie Perkins. Anna and the French Kiss or Lola and the Boy Next Door. These books are the kind that just make the world seem right and fill you up with so much happiness. It would make any bad day a Great day!

Jenny's Answer:

Well I have been itching to read "Beautiful Darkness" by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl for some time now, but have not had a chance to. Based on the reviews, it's definitely a story that would both distract and entertain me. If I was in such a mood I would pick this book up, curl on my futon with my body pillow and read until I feel a sleep. Ahh... a girl can dream!!!

Ana's Answer:

Well, that's an easy question! I go and get the next book in the "To Be Read" Pile. Since I love to read, sometimes I don't care what I'm reading, as long as I'm reading. Picking up a book and reading it while cuddling in my couch makes me feel oh so relaxed. Now if I could only do that more often...because my almost 3 year old ALWAYS has other plans...lol Got to love being a mom. :)

What’s the last book you were really EXCITED to read?

And, were you excited about it in advance? Or did the excitement bloom while you were reading it?

Are there any books you’re excited about right NOW?

Yara's Answer: The last book I was extremely excited to be able to read was The Iron Knight by Julie Kagawa. Once I knew it was on NetGalley I immediately went over and ask to download it. Now was I excited in advance or while reading it, the excitement started when I finished The Iron Queen.

Other books I'm now excited to read soon are Indelible by Lani Woodland, Everblue by Brenda Pando and Frost by Marianna Baer. Then of course there were some I have already read I was also very excited to read such as Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins, Wolfsbane by Andrea Cremer and The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin.

What’s the latest you’ve ever stayed up reading a book? Is staying up late reading a usual thing for you?

Yara's Answer: Well if you read my tweets sometimes you will see that I usually get little sleep when reading. I will say the latest I've stayed up was on a few occasions for just a couple of books. I've either gone to a midnight release and began reading as soon as I got back home or I've downloaded the book on to my nook at midnight and began reading at that time. I have stop reading usually 1 hour before I have to get up to take the kids to school and I have to begin my work day. So we are talking about 6AM. Now you might ask, is it worth it to be a zombie the rest of the day for a book, YES every single time. 

Ana's Answer: Guilty!! Yes, I have stayed up pretty late reading. The latest I think was 3:00 AM. The only problem is that I can't be in bed reading because I end up falling asleep too quick. I have to go to the living room and lay on the couch in order to stay awake. It doesn't happen too often, but if it's a book that is being released at Midnight, I will stay up late reading it just because I waited to long to finally get my hands on it, well not literally, since I get those books on my Nook, but you know what I mean.

All things being equal (money, space, etc), would you rather own copies of the books you read? Or borrow them?

Yara's Answer: Yes sometimes I spend too much on buying books or like now that I have no room left on my shelves for books. That being said, I still love physical copies, especially when the cover is so beautiful. Its adds to my collection. I think I own over 50 signed books now and that number continues to grow. 

Jenny's Answer: I would rather borrow them. Not only because of the money situation but space plays a mejor part in purchasing books. You need to make space to place them and when you don't have space you leave them lying around and they get damaged. That's why i would prefer to borrow them or i will purchase them as Ebooks and store them in my Ipad. Thank you technology!

In contrast to last week’s question–What do you think of censoring books BECAUSE of their intended age? Say, books too “old” for your kids to read?

Yara's Answer: I feel that most adult books kids under 15 should hold off reading till they are older, just because the content is very mature and they might not be ready to read it. The parent should know their child's maturity and be able to decide what is appropriated reading material for them. Im a adult and their are parts of some books that make me cringe or blush, so imagine if a 12 year old reads it. Once they hit adulthood that it free rein on any book. 

As far as YA books for Adult, I think GO FOR IT! I love love love to read YA and even sometimes MG. Nothing wrong with being taken back to your teenage years.

Do you read books “meant” for other age groups? Adult books when you were a child; Young-Adult books now that you’re grown; Picture books just for kicks … You know … books not “meant” for you. Or do you pretty much stick to what’s written for people your age?

Yara's Answer: Great topic this week. Yes I am guilty of reading out of my age group. When I was younger there really wasn't much of a YA group like there is now. So I would sneak off with my mom's Danielle Steel books. Now a days I primarily read YA, its just grown on me and I love it. Of course everyone few books I do need to read a adult book just to remember how great and steamy a adult book can get. As far as MG or picture books, I do read them with my boys. So I read pretty much any age group now. I love it that way. 

Jenny's Answer: My age group would be Adult and I usually read Adults books. However, every now and then I like to read Young Adult books as they take me back to my teen years and reminisce on those days. I love to imagine myself in the situation of the person I'm reading about and imagine what I would do if I was in the same situation now that I am an adult and I am more experienced.

If you could see one book turned into the perfect movie–one that would capture everything you love, the characters, the look, the feel, the story–what book would you choose?

Yara's Answer: Its really hard to just pick one book, there are so many great books Ive read just in the last year or so that are perfect for a movie. Each one is a different genre of course. So i think I will just name a few books instead. 

• Darkness Becomes Her by Kelly Keaton - for its paranormal aspects and New Orleans scenery
• Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins - Great contemporary book and Paris = Love
• Nightshade by Andrea Cremer - Love, Paranormal, Fantasy and so much more
• Wither by Lauren De Stefano - Dystopian would never go wrong on film
• The Iron King by Julie Kagawa - Multitude of Fey and beautiful scenery make for a beauty

So these are just a few, I know I left out other great ones. I would literally fill this page and never stop. The talent that we have been reading in the last year if phenomenal, and 2011 is coming out strong as well. Im sure we will start seeing many of our favorites hit the big screen or get a TV series.

In a related question to last week’s. I was reading the other day a quote from JFK Jr who said on the death of his mother, that she died surrounded by family, friends, and her books. Apparently, Jackie’s books were very much a part of HER, her personality, her sense of self. Up until recently, people could browse your bookshelves and learn a lot about you–what your interests are, your range of topics, favorite authors, how much you read (or at least buy books). More and more, though, this is changing. People aren’t buying books so much as borrowing them from the library. Or reading them on their e-readers or computers. There’s nothing PHYSICAL on the shelves to tell strangers in your home, for better or worse, who you ARE. Do you think this is a good thing? Bad? Discuss!

Yara's Answer: Well for me personally I still have books on my shelves just because I buy them for my Nook doesn't mean later on I don't purchase a physical copy. I love to look at my books. When they are on my shelves I can look over at them and picture myself inside the story in the particular book I might be staring at. Yes the eReaders make it easier to take with you books when your on the go, but nothing can ever replace a real book. 

Trudy's Answer: I would not call it bad, but the way to cope with the new way of life. We have become a sterile society, we do not communicate or relate to others the same way we use to, we use electronic equipments to do that. I think in order to share with others now, you have to have that e-reader or computer, not only to buy, borrow or lend these books, but it is also easier to share with others your like or dislikes.

The good is that it reaches a lot more people by way of e-mails, blogs, tweets, etc. and the books are easier to carry in electronic form and the bad is that it's not personal, you hide behind a screen and that it will never feel the same  to seat in your favorite spot and grab an actual book in your hands. In today's world we go to extremes to protect ourselves from others, maybe this is a sublime way to hide who we are to others.

Ana's Answer: Well if any one were to enter my home and see my bookshelves, they would think I am a little crazy because I absolutely love books--all books.  I do find it easier and more eco-friendly to have e-books then hardcover or paperback, but there are times when I love a book or a series and I want to have the physical book on my self for me to touch and feel.  There is just something about the smell and touch, that I truly love.

So … the books that you own (however many there may be) … do you display them proudly right there in plain sight for all the world to see? (At least the world that comes into your living room.)

Or do you keep them tucked away in your office or bedroom or library or closet or someplace less “public?”

Yara's Answer: I keep every single book I own proudly displayed. I do however now have all my signed books upstairs because I ran out of shelves and don't want them getting damaged downstairs. I also have what I call my Twilight Shrine but it has become now a book shrine for my absolutely favorite books I own. See picture below.

If you’re like me, you grew up reading everything under the sun, like the cereal boxes while you ate your breakfast, the newspapers held by strangers on the subway, the tabloid headlines at the grocery store.

What’s the oddest thing you’ve ever read? (You know, something NOT a book, magazine, short story, poem or article.)

Yara's Answer: I think the weirdest thing I have stop to read are prescription bottles or the pamphlets they come with. I just read them randomly, not because I have to. 

Ana's Answer: Bumper Stickers- Because most of them are really funny, and I'm not talking about the "My Child is an Honor Student at blah blah blah."  Those just annoy me. LOL
