Living in the small town of Heavenly, Pennsylvania, Claire Weatherly has come to admire the Amish for their wholesome, honest way of life. But she also knows that nothing is as simple as it seems—especially when murder disturbs the peace. Claire has always been game for a good puzzle, so when she hears that Mose Fisher has made one of his famous corn mazes, she can’t wait to walk the paths and test her skill. But she’ll have a much more serious puzzle to solve when, deep inside the maze, she discovers the body of Amish dairy farmer Harley Zook. It won’t be easy for Detective Jakob Fisher to investigate a murder on his own father’s farm—not after being shunned by the man for leaving the Amish community and becoming a cop. With Mose himself as a suspect, and old family secrets cropping up, it’s up to Claire to help catch the killer before she finds herself at a dead end.

Claire is the woman that everyone likes.  Everyone adores.  Everyone finds friendly and humble in every kind of way.  She has made Heavenly, PA her home and strives to keep her small business going and her friends happy.  She has truly built a special relationship with the people of the local Amish community and never misses an opportunity to enjoy a gathering when invited.  Only little did she know that this, once a year fun filled day of fun, would lead to a disturbing sight to see and a mystery to be solved.

Solving the mystery is only a part of the plot.  Getting to know all about Jakob, an Amish investigator that has turned from the Amish way, is another part of the suspense.  Claire is faced with a murder to solve, not one, but two possible love interests and a business that may see closed doors for forever.  Shunned and Dangerous will keep you in the world of suspense and crime throughout every page.

When I see the words Amish Fiction, I’m there.  I’m ready to grab it.  Take hold of it and read until the very last page.  I’ve never read any Amish Fiction by Laura Bradford so this was a first for me.  Every author has a different writing style and different approach to themes.  This was a different read for me.  Filled with mystery and crime, I just wasn’t used to that in a fictional Amish story.  The story lacked the in-depth inspirational focus and the specific attention of details to the Amish way of life and dialect, but the storyline and “who did it” focus made up for that.  The ending was not a predictable one, and that is what won me over.  I’ll definitely keep Laura Bradford on my list of authors to be sure to check out her new reads.

A Saturday Moment with Deitre (After the Earthquake)

What a week this has been.  I don't even know where to start.  I'm not going to call this store out in public.  But below is me.  Tonight.  Waiting on the next available worker to assist us with our phone upgrades.  Thankgoodness I had a book in my hand to pass the time away, until our names were called.  When it's time for an upgrade, we always go to the Apple Store directly, but "this" store had a discount going on, that we just couldn't pass up.  So I guess the wait was worth it.  Just had to share my frown, and it wasn't because of what I was reading.

I'm almost finished with Shunned and Dangerous by: Laura Bradford  Ok so this pictured was stagged.  I just couldn't help myself.  After no work or school for an entire week due to the weather and snow, I needed to get out.  I needed to do something spontaneous.  Sitting in the snow while reading was just that.  A frozen body afterwards, well...not so much.

Now because it's my birthday weekend and Valentines I must say that it has not been an uneventful one.  Yet again, on yesterday doing what I love best (reading), I felt the house shake for a good 5 to 10 seconds.  I immediately thought, that maybe a car hit the house or plane crashed in the back yard.  Nope it wasn't any of that.  It was an earthquake.  After going to my front yard to confirm with neighbors and confirming with Facebook, the earthquake was felt in parts of GA, SC and NC.  What a scary moment I'll never forget.

So it's 10:29 pm and the closing chapters of my latest read is calling my name.  Be sure to check out all the giveaways that are taking place here at OUaT and at A Leisure Moment.  We have had a address change.  www.ALeisuremoment.com.  You can also find us on facebook.  Yara and I strive to provide our readers an array of options when looking for the best in literature for all ages.  Until next week...

Happy Reading,
Deitre
