Welcome to our stop on the REMNANTS: SEASON OF WONDER blog tour for the talented Lisa T. Bergren. We are huge fans of Bergren and he books and are thrilled to have been a part of this tour.

An Excerpt (Unedited!) from the upcoming REMNANTS: SEASON OF FIRE
By Lisa T. Bergren:

I turned to face him, wanting to take his hands, but knew it would make it all the harder. If I touched him, it might be all over.
“Don’t say it,” he said miserably, folding his arm, turning partially away, and rubbing the back of his neck. “I know, Dri. I know.”
There would be no betrothal ceremony for Ronan and me. No children. No settling into a cozy cottage in the Valley. With a start, I admitted to myself that I’d been fantasizing about all of those things for days, now. Ever since we’d kissed in  the tree house. Maybe even before then, in the Wadi.
No, we would likely give our lives for this cause…to turn the world back toward the Way. To point toward hope. Peace.
“Supreme goals always demand supreme sacrifice,” I muttered, repeating a quote my father had often shared with me.
“It’s selfish, our love,” he whispered slowly, as if each word pained him. “We were born to serve a love even greater than ours.” He turned toward me again, his beautiful river-green eyes searching me, and I watched as the morning sun, filtering through the trees, caught the tips of his dark lashes. The longing, the aching within him doubled my own.
“We were,” I made myself whisper. Then I couldn’t stand it any longer. I pulled him close, resting my cheek against his chest, feeling the comforting thump of his heartbeat, the warmth of him as he struggled.
“Dri,” he groaned.
“I know. I know,” I said, tears rising. “I just need you to hold me. One more time.”
Tentatively, he put his arms around me at last, his hands unmoving. Disappointment sliced through him, and me. A slow, grinding pain, the knowledge of impending division. A sort of agony that tripled my own.
“We won’t be separate, Ronan,” I said quickly. “We’ll be together more than most married couples are.”
“All of the pain, none of the pleasure,” he said with a sardonic laugh.
I huffed a laugh with him. “It’s a gift, to be your best friend, even if I can never have all your love.”
When he said nothing, I leaned back to look at his face.
He reached then, to cradle my cheek, every bit of his action denoting devotion. “Make no mistake, Andriana,” he said fiercely, but softly. “I intend to see this mission through.” He put his other hand on my other cheek then. His eyes searched mine, back and forth, and I felt the ferocity of his pledge. “But when it’s over, I will not rest until you are completely mine.”
With that, he kissed me one final time, just the barest, lightest, slowest touch of our lips. Then he took my hand and led me back to camp.

Andriana is a Remnant, one of the gifted teens born on the seventh day during the seventy-seventh Harvest after the Great War, and destined to act as humanity’s last shield against the horrors that now plague those who remain.

After years of training in stealth and warfare, Andriana and her Knight protector, Ronan, are finally ready to answer the Call and begin the life they were designed for. But as they embark with the other Remnants on the first of their assignments, they quickly discover that the world beyond their protected Valley home is more dangerous than they imagined.

The Sons of Sheol will stop at nothing to prevent Dri and Ronan from rescuing anyone sympathetic to the Remnants’ cause. And as the Remnants attempt to battle the demonic forces, other enemies close in. Dangers intensify, but so do Dri's feelings for Ronan--the one emotion she is not meant to feel. In the midst of their mission, Andriana must find a way to master her feelings, or risk compromising everything.

Book Review: Torrent by Lisa T. Bergren

Torrent
River of Time #3
Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Historical Romance/Time Travel
Released: September 1st 2011
Review Source: Author
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) When Gabi and Lia finally learn to surf the river of time, they realize they must make hard choices about life and love in the third and final book in the River of Time series.

Gabi and Lia Betarrini have learned to control their time travel, and they return from medieval Italy to save their father from his tragic death in modern times. But love calls across the centuries, and the girls are determined to return forever—even though they know the Black Plague is advancing across Europe, claiming the lives of one-third of the population. In the suspenseful conclusion of the River of Time series, every decision is about life … and death.

Torrent is exactly what its title describes it is. Torrent is drenched in action and romance. You are on the edge of your seat while reading this novel the whole time from page 1 to the last page. What a power house of a book actually I should say series. When a series that is out of my normal reading genre wins me over like The River of Time series did, you know its has to be excellent. I adore what Lisa has created in these pages, I don't want the story to end ever. So my only wish is that the publisher and Lisa keep it going.

Gabi and Lia have done the impossible. They were able to travel back into modern day time and save their father. They are now a complete family once again just in 14th century Italy. They believe that if they travel back they might loose their father again. They all return and a year's time has passed. They see that things are bad, the castle is not in Marcello's possession and his brother is still captured by the enemy. Follow the "She-Wolves" as they figure out how to take back the castle and save the brother. Will Gabi survive the twists and turns they have coming their way. Will they lose their father no matter what century they are in? How will changing events in history affect everything?

If your looking for a series that has excellent characters, detailed history and non-stop action, then READ this series. I can't stress enough how much you will fall in love with this series. One of the best things about these books, is the amount of detail Lisa writes about historical events and scenery. This is how history should have been taught in school. I recommend to any one that love a great book to read, young or old.

Summary: (from goodreads) Mom touched my underdress—a gown made six hundred years before—and her eyes widened as she rubbed the raw silk between thumb and forefinger. She turned and touched Lia’s gown. “Where did you get these clothes?”

Gabi knows she’s left her heart in the fourteenth century and she persuades Lia to help her to return, even though they know doing so will risk their very lives. When they arrive, weeks have passed and all of Siena longs to celebrate the heroines who turned the tide in the battle against Florence—while the Florentines will go to great lengths to see them dead.

But Marcello patiently awaits, and Gabi must decide if she’s willing to leave her family behind for good in order to give her heart to him forever.

The River of Time Series is turning out to be pure bliss. Lisa's sophomore novel in the series continues with the greatness that Waterfall brought. The cover maintains the same idea as the first did. We see a different character from the book on it again. Seeing the models on the cover helps me visualize the characters while I'm reading the book. Even though the way Lisa writes, she makes it so easy to see everything unfold in your mind. Cascade brings even more than what Waterfall told. There is non-stop action, twist and suspense going on the whole time. She might at times find yourself remembering to breathe. If you feel in love with Waterfall, Cascade will seal the deal for you.

Cascade continues were Waterfall left off. Sisters Gabi and Lia are back in their own time. Gabi's main objective now is to see how fast she can get back to Marcello in his time. A minute spent in the present is so much time passed in the fourteenth century. Gabi, Lia and their mom head back and so much has happen since they left. Their mom cant believe it but handles it fairly well. There is so much betrayal that has happen and loss. This is also the time where thinking about the Plague is serious. With everything taking place what will Gabi decide, if she makes it another day of course. Will she stay with Marcello in the 14th century or will she head back to her time. Will the She-wolves live to fight another day?

Lisa memorizes you with her writing. She balances everything out so well, you don't ever feel like this is too much or this wasn't enough. She converts the 14th century in such a modern way. Mayhap, Lisa comes from the 14th century in her past life and now the inner story is coming to life in these pages. Lisa writes like if she has lived it like the sisters experienced it.  Besides Gabi is such a strong female character and so encouraging, its a added bonus to read her story. Oh did I mention the ending, Ha! you have to read it to find out. This series is a must-read.

Book Review: Waterfall by Lisa T. Bergren

Waterfall
River of Time #1
Author: Lisa T. Bergren
Pages: 352 Paperback
Reading Level: YA
Published: February 1st 2011

Available: Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Indiebound

Summary: (from goodreads) Lisa Tawn Bergren's new YA series, River of Time, is romantic, historical fiction in which the plucky heroine doesn't have to fear a vampire's bite but must still fight for her life.

In Waterfall, American teenager Gabi Betarrini accidentally finds herself in Fourteenth-Century Italy . . . Knights. Swords. Horses. Armor. And Italian hotties. Most American teens want an Italian vacation, but the Betarrini sisters have spent every summer of their lives there with their archaeologist parents. Stuck on yet another hot, dusty dig, they are bored out of their minds... until they place their hands atop hand prints in an ancient tomb and find themselves catapulted into the Fourteenth Century and in the middle of a fierce battle between knights bent on killing one another.

I am so happy that Lisa contacted me about her River in Time series because I might have never heard or read them otherwise. I'm also very thankful to Katie (Mundie Moms) and Andye (Reading Teen) for recommending the series when I asked them both about it on twitter. So Lisa make sure you virtually hug them both, they completely pimp out the series to me and had me sold within seconds. I don;t give out my 5 ratings very easily, the books have to work hard for them. So that being said Waterfall deserve the 5 trees with out a doubt. What a world Lisa has created here. Its nothing I've read before. I'm not a big fan of historical stories, but Waterfall is so unique and amazing that its makes the story. Lisa brings life to the history we travel back to. The details we read in each page, seems so realistic and alive.

The story begins with two sisters that in the summer are stuck in Italy while their archaeologist mom digs and works in the tombs. Gabi is the oldest sister and decides that she is fed up with not being able to venture into to the site. While her mom is occupied with Italians officials about the site, the girls venture into the tomb and discover some hand prints on the wall. These hands prints fit one their hands perfectly and also feel hot to the touch. The girls at one point place their hands on the wall at the same time and cause a time travel reaction. Gabi comes to and realizes she is still in the tomb but where is Lia her sister. She also notices the tomb is different and heads outside. She is in the middle of a battlefield, full of knight in Armour and swords flying. Some how the girls by touching the hand prints have traveled back into medieval Italy. Gabi is in shocked and wonders where Lia might be. If you think that causes a reaction, well wait until you read how Lord Marcello reacts when he sees in, mind you she is dressed in skinny jeans and a tank. I'm sure I have caught your attention so far. I wont spoil anymore for you. Does Gabi find Lia, how will Gabi go back home. What is a girl to do if she falls in love with a knight from the 14th century?

Waterfall is a fast-paced adventure with a beautiful love story intertwined in its pages. Now don't be shocked if you catch yourself laughing out loud too, when you read some of the dialogue Lisa gives her characters. Gabi is one of my favorite characters, she has you in switches when ever she talks to herself. Then lets not leave Lord Marcello behind, he is 100% swoon-worthy. Waterfall is a perfect beginning to this series. I have read Cascade already and can;t wait to write that review as well. Next ill be reading Torrent and just don't want the series to end. I really believe everyone should read Waterfall and see what I'm fussing about.
