Book Review: The Power by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Power (Titan, #2)
The Power
Titan #2
Author:  Jennifer L. Armentrout
Reading Level: New Adult
Genre: Fantasy
Release Date: February 23rd 2016
Review Source: Spencer Hill

With any great change, there is always strife, and the Covenant University has become the frontline between pure-bloods who want the Breed Order reinstated and the half-bloods who want the right to control their own destinies.

Fate has other plans.

The violence is escalating and war between the races seems inevitable, and it couldn’t come at a worse time. Hyperion may be out of commission, but Josie and Seth know they have only earned a reprieve.  Seth must get Josie fully prepared, which means controlling her newfound abilities, and they need to find the other demigods before the Titans do.

But the gods are sensing a greater threat.

Only one thing is more dangerous than a bunch of starved Titans, and that’s an out-of-control Apollyon. The aether in Josie is drawing Seth in deeper, and when lust mixes with love and gives way to power, he knows being close to her is not only dangerous to her, but to everyone around them, but letting her go requires a level of selflessness that just isn’t Seth’s style.

The paths taken in the past are becoming the roads of the future.

Just as chaos breaks out, familiar faces from the past return, complicating the already strained bond between Josie and Seth, and when the danger from the Titans erupts with devastating consequences, the dark allure of power calls to Seth again, but this time Josie might not be able to pull him back.

And when the struggle between power and love becomes the deadliest battleground, there may be no salvation.

Guys, you're in for a treat. A very attractive treat in the form of Seth.

I didn't think I could enjoy this as much as the Covenant series because that series stole my heart and stole my social life away. The Power was emotionally gripping and ever so powerful. And good luck trying to get me away from the series when I'm reading it, because it ain't happening.

There is so much going on here. The Titans are still hunting down the demi-gods in hope to take their energy and conquer power over the greek gods, the pure-bloods hatred over half-bloods hit an all time high, and then there's Seth and Josie. Whilst Seth is still dealing with his inner demons and fighting his attraction with Josie, she's training to unleash a can of whoop ass on the one's who hope to do her and her friends harm. The storyline constantly has something going on and I love it. It's action packed, full of mythology and the best part, the romance.

We discover a lot of things about Seth. He's been a closed door for so long now and it broke my heart that he never really had somebody to share his stories with, but the door is cracking open and Josie is the reason why. She gives him purpose more than being the former God Killer and he teachers her to be the demi-god that she was born to be. They balance each other out.

I have to say one of my favourite things I'm enjoying about this series are the characters. The wonderful group of friends carried over from the Covenant series, how close they all are and the wittiness. We're always getting glimpse of the background characters, even Alex and Aidan, and I love that they're still apart of the series!

It's tragic that you blink and it's over. Done with. The wait begins again for the next instalment. It's such a great read that time flies when you read it and it's almost like you only picked the book up and you're putting it straight back down. If you enjoy action, cocky greek gods and witty characters, this is for you. Read it, you won't regret it.

Book Review: The Return by Jennifer L. Armentrout

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.

Book 1 in the new adult paranormal TITAN series, spin-off to the best selling COVENANT series.

Greek mythology makes me weak at the knees. The Covenant series stole my heart and I would have been a fool not to read this. You don't have to read the Covenant series to understand The Return, although it would help a lot and I would very much recommend reading them first. It's a fantastic series and The Return wasn't a disappointment, either.

It's been a year since Seth started working for the Gods. He's changed, the world is still recovering and the Gods are suffering the back lash of releasing a Titan in a desperate time of need. Now, Seth works for the Gods doing anything and everything they ask, and now Apollo has asked him to protect an innocent woman from the wrath of the Titans. The important question is...why will the Titans come after her?

The woman, Josie, is exposed to a world she's always been destined to but never knew of, and Seth finds himself doing something he's never truly done before, love a woman. It was enduring to see. Seth was character I've been on the fence about, but getting to pick his brain in The Return shone a new light over him. I felt for everything he's been through and he grew on me a lot. I may even like him now...a lot.

I cupped her chin and tilted it back, deepening the kiss, wanting to somehow claim her very soul. Funny thing was, it was my soul that was being claimed, my breath that was being stolen, and my heart that was pounding crazy fast in my chest.

The Return keeps in the loop with the same characters we loved in the Covenant series and introduced us to some kickass new ones. This book is only the start, and ladies and gentlemen, hold onto your seats because I know you're in for a helluva ride with this series.

I was a half-blood, but I was also the Apollyon, a child of a pure and a half, a union that had been forbidden for thousands of years because an Apollyon was more powerful than any pure or half could ever hope to be.

And I always got to the traitors’ hideouts before they did, so the Sentinels were usually left with the cleanup, which I was sure absolutely thrilled them.

The first to enter was a female half-blood dressed just as I was. Her black hair was pulled back in a neat little knot at the top of her head. She was older, probably in her mid-thirties. It was pretty rare

for a Sentinel to live that long. Her dark skin paled as she stopped just inside the entrance. She clenched titanium daggers in her hands like she expected something vicious to pop out from under the bloody mess.

The female Sentinel tipped her chin up, and the overhead light sliced across her broad cheekbones. She bore a jagged scar under her right eye, the skin lighter in tone. She saw me and froze.

My smile widened.

Behind her, another Sentinel rushed in, almost mowing her over. He saw me and whispered, “Seth.”

He’d said my name like I was the monster under his bed, and I sort of liked that. Then another Sentinel and another rolled in. The fifth took one look at my interior design work and keeled over. Slamming his hands on his knees, he hurled up his dinner.

Nice.

Our society existed completely unknown to the average mortal and had operated under what was known as the Breed Order for thousands of years. The Order had been dismantled, which meant halfs were no longer forced to choose between becoming Sentinels—hunting down violent creatures, protecting pures, enforcing laws, and otherwise usually dying pretty damn quickly on the job—or servants, which was a job that really wasn’t a job, but more like slavery. Since then, many pampered pures had signed on to be Sentinels, making up for the loss of the halfs who’d pretty much said “screw this shit, I’m out.”

This wasn’t necessarily a good thing.

For example, the dumbass puking all over my blood-covered floor was a pure. When he straightened, his face a greenish hue, he backed away, shaking his head. “I can’t,” he gasped out. “I can’t do this.”

Then he turned and hauled ass out the doors.
I sighed. This was why we couldn’t have nice things.

She moaned into the kiss and bit his bottom lip. “God…”

Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say because he stopped and left her cold and wanting.

She wouldn't beg, wasn't that type of girl. But, inside, she could cringe and cry for something she hadn't had in forever, a surge of passion.

“What’s wrong, Parker?”

Dark, hungry eyes studied her. “I know everything about you, except who you are.”

“I’m me.”

“Exactly.”

She wanted to forget about everything on the outside world. “What does that mean?”

“I’ve worked with you for years, didn’t know it. I protected you from your ex-fiancé’s crap, didn’t know that either. You’re vulnerable and offering me exactly what I want.”

“What’s that?”

He squeezed her body. “You.”

“You’re saying no?” she whispered.

“I’m not going to take you on a couch in a safe house.” His blue eyes neared black. She’d never seen a look more intense, more at war.

He strengthened his hold on her. “You want this?”

She nodded, knowing that this kiss was all she’d ever have of him.

“You’ve wanted this?”

Her eyes sank shut. Parker was calling her on it, and she couldn’t lie. “Yes.”

Long seconds ticked by. Their cheeks touched then he pushed off the couch. “Then that’s why.”
