5 Ways An Angel Has Entered my Life

  1. I was in labor and the doctor shouted, "cold blue" and rushed me to have an emergency C-section. I prayed that my son would make it out of my tummy alive. I heard his first cry and saw that his face wasn't blue.
  2. When I drove back home in the middle of the afternoon after I'd just finished my final exam in college. I fell asleep behind the wheel and woke up just in time to push the brake petal from crushing into a huge truck.
  3. When I was eight years old, the beach current sucked me in. I remember tumbling inside the water, along with some seaweed. Somehow I got out of it and made it back to shore.
  4. When I was driving in the rain, I turned right to find myself in too much water. My car turned in full circle. Luckily, there was no cars nearby even though it was during early morning traffic jam.
  5. I never dreamed of being an author. I started writing Crossroads when my grandmother passed away. Currently, I've stopped teaching after almost 20 years and became a full time author.

Having happily ever after is never easy when evil lurks nearby. Now that Claudia has her memories back and her life seems to have settled down, the fallen have come out of hiding with the news about Aliah’s and his demons’ death. The fallen coming out of hiding is not a concern; there are those who want to be left alone. However, one particular fallen, Dantanian, is hungry for revenge. Being one of God’s first fallen angels, he is the evilest of his kind, known as an angel of many faces. He will do anything to get his way, even if it means forcing others to join him. And he will stop at nothing to get Michael on his side.

Dantanian will torture, kill for pleasure, and concoct evil schemes to get Michael’s attention; and once in his hands, he will try to destroy all the happiness Michael fought so hard to gain. Having no support from the Twelve, and with Claudia temporarily losing her powers, the venators and the alkins must work together once again to save their friends. As death draws near to those captured by Dantanian, will the gang reach them in time? Or will Michael return to the dark angel he once was and destroy everyone he loves?

When a massive group of angels known as nephilim—half human, half angel—had been found by the Royal Council, they were taken to Halo City. Instead of cleansing the Earth with a flood, which had been done before, the Royal Council created a place just for this group of angels. While they were being taken, one of the Twelve, named Aden, rebelled and convinced many alkins to join his cause—to live freely among the humans and take over Crossroads.

After the fall of Aden and his followers, Michael was taken to Halo City to heal. Not only did Michael had a difficult time settling into his new environment, he had conflicting issues regarding his past. Upon meeting the alkins, a particular one by the name of Davin refused to give up on helping him deal with his struggles. Together, they discovered a strange being that would appear at the Crossroads at unexpected times. Souls wandering there is nothing new, but this one aged as time passed. Mystified, they both searched for answers while refraining from telling the Twelve about her. Who is this being that had enraptured Michael’s attention? And will Michael finally forgive himself and find the happiness that he yearned to have?

Book Review: I Am Wolf by Joann H. Buchanan

I Am Wolf
The Children of Nox Series #1
Author: Joann H. Buchanan
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Supernatural
Released: January 12th 2012
Review Source: Author
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) Angel, hero, monster, devil--we all become what we really are. I Am Wolf --The journey of a boy about to become a man who inherits his ancestors gift and must learn the right way to use it. He falls in love with Alaynee and begins to feel like he is normal again. When their world is shattered by the kidnapping of Alaynee's little brother, Jonah breaks the cardinal rule of his gift and bites the kidnapper, creating a creature called the unnatural. This sends him and all his friends on an adventure across the states to a place in Tennessee. There they find not only must they stop the unnatural creature, but they must save Cara--the girl the creature is after. Jonah must ask himself the most important question of all, would you sacrifice yourself to save another?

I Am Wolf is a fresh new werewolf story. The main character, Jonah Greywolf, moves to Sisters, Oregon at his parents request. They basically kick him out of the house to go live with his grandparents. Jonah is very upset with his parents and starts to believe his parents are getting a divorce, after all, why else would his grandparents not tell him why he's really been sent to live with them? But, Jonah wasn't sent to Sisters for a divorce between his parents ... he was sent to this small town because he is a descendant of Tibolt's clan. Jonah is about to go through the biggest change of his life, his first transformation.

He meets up with old friends that he hasn't seen since he stopped visiting his grandparents. He quickly finds his rhythm as a part of the youngling pack in Sisters. The youngling pack is led by Daniel who has a twin sister, Alaynee. Alaynee is Juliet to Jonah's Romeo. It's love at first sight. It's that love that will change Jonah's life forever. Jonah's love for Alaynee and his compulsion to protect her and her little brother, Squeaks, allows Jonah to change without the full moon. It's not the change that will rearrange Jonah's life though, its the bite he places on a human, thus turning him into an Unnatural.

Ralph, the evil redneck poacher, is a disgusting, repulsive, irredeemable character. He's a drifter living in the woods of Sisters, Oregon and is searching for "the white wolf". It's the trophy he wants to give to his overly voluptuous and very imaginary girlfriend, Gracie. Gracie has been popping up in Ralph's life since his marriage to Jeanne (or "the ball and shackles" as he frequently refers to her), started going south. In addition to the white wolf, Ralph is also looking for a way to get his "flesh of my flesh" back. His daughter Cara, was taken in the divorce by Jeanne and he's never forgiven her.

Overall the story is entertaining and new and that's what I liked about it. Joann Buchanan did not draw on the traditional werewolf lore that most authors use. She created something new and fun to read. There are some chapters in the book which were particularly hard to digest, most having to do with Ralph. Buchanan has succeeded in writing the most disturbed character I've read about to date. When reading his bits of the story, you are reading from the point of view of a psychopath who commits crimes which are very vivid and violent as he transforms into the Unnatural.

I love when authors share varying character's points of view in stories. However, I felt that Joann Buchanan often shared too many points of view which caused me to have to re-read passages to make sure I was understanding that particular character's voice. Some scenes seemed too drawn out and at times information was repeated time and time again throughout the story. All of this aside, the story was definitely enjoyable to read and had me in tears before the end of the story. I am already looking forward to reading the next book in the Children of Nox series to see where Buchanan takes Jonah and the rest of the youngling pack.

"Reading the Crossroads Saga has always put me in a very ethereal place while turning its pages. Well in BEYOND Mary Ting takes its to another level and I embrace the new darkness with open wings just like Michael would with his heart-shaped wings!"

In the book market right now there are a few Angel stories, but Mary's has more to it then just Angels. Its makes you happy like a contemporary novel affects you when you read it. It has paranormal beings that usually don't exist in the Angels world. Its a thriller with all its action and what next's. Beyond just brings so much to the table, that a reader will feel satisfied after finishing the book. Crossroads Saga is one of my top favorite series. I haven't rated any of the books anything less than a 5.

So Beyond is the third installment in Crossroads Saga. At the end of Between we were left with such a life changing event between Claudia and Michael. It was so heart wrenching but a perfect example of a major cliff-hanger. So Beyond continues where we left off. IF YOU HAVEN'T READ (might want to stop reading here) Between or Crossroads, I suggest you don't read what I writing next. It will contain spoilers from previous books. Claudia has no memory of Michael now and Michael is in pain from what he has had to do so Claudia could forget him. Will Claudia remember? Not if Austin can help it. Claudia knows she has a large blank in her mind but even knowing that she is determined to become the venator she was meant to be. Jumping in immediately to her duties as a venator, Claudia doesn't have time to try and dwell on the past she can't remember. She is given task for venators that have been doing their jobs for a long time. When Claudia and the rest of the venators and groups find out that these creepy demonic shadows have been released into the world, they must stop them before there is an apocalypse. Claudia takes note that a certain angel with heart shaped wings keeps appearing when she is in a jam, she can't see his face but she feels like she could trust him with her life. Will Claudia remember and if she does will that help or worsen the apocalypse that is set to come. Will those she trusted be now her enemies? (begin reading again)

Mary as I mentioned above took Beyond to another level. There is this darkness that just drags you in to the story that she conjured with new characters and beings. I am truly lucky that Mary let me read the manuscript even before editing was completed. Then I find out after I finished that there will be a book 4 and that made my day. If you are familiar with Crossroads Saga, you will be in for a serious treat and if you are new or unfamiliar with Mary's Crossroads Saga, I give this series my big stamp of approval. Not all great stories come from big authors or publishing houses. This is why I never turn my back on indie or self-published. You will always find the diamond in the rough. Beyond is just purely AMAZING!!!
