Mockingjay
Hunger games #3
Author: Suzanne Collins
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Dystopian
Released: August 24th 2010
Review Source: Purchased

Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding.

It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans -- except Katniss.

The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay -- no matter what the personal cost.

*SPOILERS* SPOILERS* and more *SPOILERS*

I didn't know when writing this review if to leave it spoiler free or write it with spoilers but honestly how can you not write it with spoilers. So please stop reading if you don't want me to spoil it for you. Now on to the review, this might be my longest review ever, let see.

Katniss, we begin with her in District 13. now what a district, its what I would call a military camp. Everyone is runs by schedule's on their arms. You are given some above ground time, not too much. You are expected to eat every last drop of your food and no more. You wear this uniforms and live in the pods assign to you. Katniss lives with her mom and sister and eventually they get moved to a pod with a window because Katniss found her pain in the butt cat when she went to visit District 12 after the bombing. President Coin is the leader in 13, and lets just say you get this un-easy feeling from her and well so does Katniss.

Peeta we find out is captured by President Snow and is in the capital and Gale he lives in 13 but is usually away in another district doing things, I like how the story was not all about Katniss and her choice of who she would pick or end up with. We get story of the whole Rebellion and how the war will be. What a rebellion it turned out to be. When Katniss gets taken to District 8 and they bomb the hospital she had just visited with all the ill, that broke my heart. I kept saying this will be the turning point where Katniss breaks and gives up. She always proved me wrong, she never back down. She did become The Mockingjay! I truly liked how she as for immunity for all the visitors still alive from Coin in return for her going out into the battle and becoming The Mockingjay. She never once put aside others.

When they finally head off into their mission in to the capital her team, Im thinking the whole time who will die. The whole capital is filled with dangerous pods above and underground. Katniss and Peeta even call it the next Hunger games, since it set up like one. I'm also worried if Peeta will kill Katniss since when they finally rescued him , he had been tortured and hijacked to kill Katniss. They have to basically watch him with all eyes and keep him restrain. One thing I do love is how he starts to trust Katniss and the rest by how he ask his question. Which is one of my favorite lines in the book. So they finally make it to President Snow's mansion outside after several Team members being killed and slaughtered. Gale was taken my peacekeepers and Peeta is missing in action too. Katniss heads to the front of the entrance in her disguise, she notices all the small children have been corralled in front of the mansion. She cant believe President Snow is using the children as a protective wall for him. That's when all hell brakes loose, in the children's corral parachutes are drop and they turn out to be deadly bombs. I cant believe it happening while I'm reading it. Katniss starts to head over to see if she can help the ones wounded when the rebel medics arrive and she sees her sister Prim. When she finally makes contact with Prim, all the others parachutes explode. We loose Prim and lets say Katniss is not with us temporarily. This is when I pick up speed in my reading, because I can't believe this is how we will lose The Mockingjay.

They save Katniss, but Katniss in the inside has been lost and probably forever. She isolates herself from everyone including Gale and Peeta. Finally Gale moves on to another district and Katniss is taken back to 12 once she has recovered on the outside because inside she is still very broken. Haymitch is sent to watch her and eventually Peeta arrives in 12 too. Katniss begins to hunt again and start fixing herself inside a bit at a time. I love how Peeta plants primroses for Prim's honor. Now here is where my favorite line in the whole book is written. Peeta ask Katniss "You love me. Real or not real?" and Katniss says "Real". Now my heart began to sing. The epilogue was a bit short but I think it was to the point and it worked well for the ending. The Mockingjay lives on and her children are her salvation with Peeta. The End!
