Once upon a Signing: Julie from Yummy Men & Kick Ass Chicks

Once Upon a Book Signing

Happy Thursday to all! Today we bring another special book signing all the way from Canada. Julie from Yummy Men and Kick Ass Chicks blog stops by today and shares with us her meeting with the wonderful Cassandra Clare.

Julie: I live in Canada and in my part of the country book signings are well…let’s just say they are pretty much non-existent.  I’m like many book-addicted mothers where I got into reading after my kids were born and after reading the Twilight series.  After devouring those books, I decided that reading as a hobby suited me and wanted more.  I thought staying with the YA genre would work so off I went to find my ‘next Twilight’.  What I discovered was The Mortal Instruments trilogy by Cassandra Clare.  Let me just tell you Wow!  I read those books three times in a row!  Eventually I discovered Paranormal Romance books and they pretty much killed my YA reading tendencies, but I will never forget how special that series was to me.

When I heard back in November 2009 that Cassandra Clare was touring with Holly Black, Scott Westerfeld and Keith Thompson and that they were going to be in Ottawa (a mere 45 minute drive from me), I told my husband that we had to go!  Finally the day came and I almost peed my pants I was so freakin’ excited.  When we got there, it was just me, my husband (both of us in our early 30s) and about 150 screaming teenagers!  My husband was trying not to look too embarrassed among all of those girls.  I giggled at him lots.

When I finally got face to face with Cassandra, I was smiling like a fool.  She seemed genuinely happy to meet her fans.  She was very friendly and didn’t try to rush me away as I was telling her how amazing her books were.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself that evening.  And my signed copy of City of Glass will be one of my most important possessions always.

Im so glad you had this great chance to meet Cassandra Clare and the other authors. We love to see when the Husband's support are addictions. Now remember to stop by Julie's blog and say Hello to her. Currently now she has Paranormal Romance Week going on.

TwilightDance - I don't drive. He's my driver. He had no choice but to come with me! lol I think that's interesting that he's asked you though.

  5. I'm one of those moms who got into reading after Twilight too! And the "old folk person in the crowd of teenagers" feeling - that was me when I went to Maggie Stiefvater's signing. LOL Kudos to your hubs for going!

Sounds like you went to an AWESOME author signing. Isn't it the best when they are genuinely happy to be there? :)

  10. Jess - Yay! We're MI twins!

Jen - He just got redder and redder until he decided to just accept that fact that he was the only man there (other than the employees and the authors of course) lol

  11. I loved Julie's story!

Being in my early 30s myself - sometimes you just have to let your inner tween out :) Right?
