Summary: (from goodreads) It's time--for the riveting sequel to the #1 New York Times bestselling Clockwork Angel

The situation at the London Institute has never been more precarious. With Mortmain and his clockwork army still threatening, the Council wants to strip Charlotte of her power and hand the running of the Enclave over to the unscrupulous and power-hungry Benedict Lightwood.

In the hope of saving Charlotte and the Institute, Will, Jem, and Tessa set out to unravel the secrets of Mortmain's past--and discover unsettling Shadowhunter connections that hold the key not only to the enemy's motivations, but also to the secret of Tessa's identity. Tessa, already caught between the affections of Will and Jem, finds herself with another choice to make when she learns how the Shadowhunters helped make her a "monster." Will she turn from them to her brother, Nate, who has been begging her to join him at Mortmain's side? Where will her loyalties--and love--lie? Tessa alone can choose to save the Shadowhunters of London...or end them forever.

- excerpt

You know, I really honestly should not be surprised at what happens because of the whole Jace/Clary thing from TMI...and the ending of City of Fallen Angels (I'm still reeling from that one)...this woman knows how to write a story to bring forth the wealth of emotions that a human being could possibly have. I cheered, I cried, I laughed, I cringed, I smiled, I sobbed...I do believe I even shouted "NNOOOOOOOOO" a few times...and pounded my fist into the floor or steering wheel (when I was listening while driving). There were parts that my heart was bursting with happiness and just as many (if not more) parts where I felt like my heart was breaking into a million tiny pieces. I won't spoil the story for those who haven't had the experience of reading this (or listening to the book as the case was for me), but I will say that I am Team Will and I pushed the stop button on the final CD with both a happy and a heavy heart.

Moving on from the Will/Tessa/Jem love triangle...I love, love, love Magnus Bane! My heart broke for him in this book, too. And I think every scene he was in was one of my favorites. I was disheartened by Jessamine and her choices in this book. I cried during Charlotte and Henry's confessions towards the end and at the end. I loved hearing more about Will's past and his family. I was happy that there weren't as many creepy automatons in this one, though I have a bad feeling that we'll see a whole lot more of them in the next book. Sophie was one of my favorite characters in this book-she is really coming into her own. This book really showed how strong the connection is between Jem and Will, and that they would do anything for the other--blood brothers. I really like Tessa, but I gotta say-there were a few moments in this book that I wanted to smack her so she would realize what was best for everyone involved.

A quick comment on the readers of the audio book--I LOVED these two!!! Just how I pictured Will and Tessa to sound. Ed Westwick and Heather Lind--spot on!!! I could listen to them read all day and all night. I will leave you with one piece of advice if you listen to the audio book--don't listen to the last 3 CDs while you are driving. Trust me, really. You will thank me later, the other drivers on the road will thank me, and your insurance company will thank me, too. Oh, and make sure you have some tissues close by...

  1. I can't wait to listen to this book. I think Ed Westwick will be an amazing narrator.

  2. Team Will!!! and I also loved every scene with Magnus Bane in it
