Summary: (from goodreads) 16-year-old Grace has lived in the Smokies all her life, patrolling with her forest ranger father who taught her about wildlife, tracking, and wilderness survival.

When her dad goes missing on a routine patrol, Grace refuses to believe he’s dead and fights the town authorities, tribal officials, and nature to find him.

One day, while out tracking clues, Grace is rescued from danger by Mo, a hot guy with an intoxicating accent and a secret. As her feelings between him and her ex-boyfriend get muddled, Grace travels deep into the wilderness to escape and find her father.

Along the way, Grace learns terrible secrets that sever relationships and lives. Soon she’s enmeshed in a web of conspiracy, deception, and murder. And it’s going to take a lot more than a compass and a motorcycle (named Lucifer) for this kick-butting heroine to save everything she loves.

Untraceable by S.R. Johannes was a fresh change in my reading from the fantasy world to a world of real life humans, with real life problems, enveloped with a twist of mystery, pain and even some very special friendships. I’ve read many books over the years where the characters pull me in and don’t let go until the end, which is what I call great writing.

With Untraceable, the hold was different. It was a tight grasp that wouldn’t let go. The author created a setting that I visualized from start to finish. Although our main character is faced with the problem of trying to find her missing father, it’s the setting that had me wanting more.

With every page I could smell the crisp air of the little town that Grace grew up in. With every page I could feel the sprinkles of water splashing up on my face when Grace went fly fishing. I could hear the water flowing in the up most of secret places. I could feel the heat of the camp fire on my skin, but above all, I could see the forest. The sun peaking through the branches and the light of the moon shining through the night. The tall trees, the green leaves, and the prickly underbrush, the setting is what hooked me from start to finish. I visualized it all.

S.R. Johannes creates a story about a daughter determined to find her missing father. Determined to save the creatures of the forest. Determined to figure out how the missing pieces truly fit all together. Determined never to give up. It’s Grace’s story to tell and it’s a story that leaves the reader ready for the next chapter of Grace’s quest.
