Summary: (from goodreads) Jess is no ordinary vampire. Protected by the Manchester vampire clan, and initiated by her family’s east coast American coven, she is sought after by every dark witch and warring vampire faction. Jess must fight if she wants to keep hold of her friends, her sanity and finally her existence.

As the dead bodies of human girls begin to stack up, and her recently accepted vampire boyfriend, Daniel, finds himself in prison, Jess goes on a crazy, forbidden trip to London, racing against time to save an old friend and solve the mystery behind Daniel’s incarceration. In battling new enemies and finding new friends, Jess’s confidence finds room to grow, but who will she lose along the way?

I think this book can stand on it own but I highly recommend reading the first book in the series, Witchblood, before reading Witchcraft, which is book 2 in the series.

Witchcraft's first chapter opens with Jess, who is half vampire half witch, trying to understand her "witch side". Eva, who is Daniel's sire and has become Jess' friend, has given her a very powerful spell book that has been passed down in Jessica's family for generations. Jess is not very strong for a vampire because she is refusing to drink blood from a living donor, still preferring bagged blood from a blood bank. Jessica is also not very good about following instructions. She feels no compulsion to obey her sire (Daniel) as a new vampire should, but she is definitely attracted to him. Her independence and inability to do as told leads her in to trouble time and time again.

During a short period of time that she is left alone she is kidnapped by some dark magic witches. With her strength negatively affected she still battles to escape and save her ancient book of spells. Luke and other fallen angels show up to help her fight for her freedom.

Upon her return to Daniel's, a white magic witch is waiting to complete her ceremony for her induction in to the coven. All this is done with the vampire leader (Sebastian) permission as he is hoping to share her with the witches in a deal that will give him access to her potential power. With her induction completed the two supernatural parts of Jessica battle over her soul and strange side effects impact all of those around her.

Her potential powers also bring forth new enemies. A rival area vampire leader (Cole) kidnaps Alex, Jessica's human best friend, in hopes of trapping Jessica and her powers for himself. As the situation escalates, the leaders of the supernatural world must step in to protect humanity. Battles are fought as all interested parties fight to posses Jessica and she struggles fiercely to maintain her independence. But not everyone Jessica cares about will walk away from this fight.

I love this series. I can hardly wait until the 3rd book, WitchLove is released. The author, Emma Mills website posts a January 2013 release date. This is a series that I will look forward to re-reading just as the new book is ready for release.
