Live young. Live hard. Love deep.

Charley Redford was just an ordinary girl until Jake Caplin moved to her small town in Indiana and convinced her she was extraordinary. Almost from day one Jake pulled Charley into the deep and promised he was right there with her. But when a tragic incident darkened Jake’s life he waded out into the shallows and left Charley behind.

Almost four years later Charley thinks she’s moved on. That is until she takes a study year abroad in Edinburgh and bumps into none other than Jake Caplin at a party with his new girlfriend. The bad-boy-turned-good attempts to convince Charley to forgive him, and as her best friend starts spending time with Jake’s, Charley calls a truce, only to find herself tumbling back into a friendship with him.

As they grow closer, the spark between them flares and begins playing havoc with their lives and relationships. When jealousy and longing rear their destructive heads, Charley and Jake struggle to come to grips with what they mean to one another.
And even if they work it out, there is no guarantee Charley will ever trust Jake to lead her back into the deep…

As I started to read this story, I thought "oh no, another cutesy romance...." not the case. This is such a riveting and captivating read! Not far into the story and I was hooked. The story takes place between 2008 and 2012.

Charley is a college girl who studies abroad in Edinburgh, Scotland with her best friend Claudia during their 3rd year. Upon arriving, the girls decide to go sightseeing and run smack dab into one of the most beautiful men they have ever seen, Beck. Claudia is instantly attracted to him and decides that he will soon be hers. Beck invites them to a frat party and the girls decide to go. While there, Charley (Char) is mingling with friends and feels a presence. She looks up and it's no other than the boyfriend that broke her heart ... Jake. It seems that Beck and Jake are best of friends. She soon realizes that a friendship with Beck, means being around Jake.

Charley avoids him at all costs, though he is relentless. He wants to apologize for hurting her 4 years ago, but she is afraid to face him. She is afraid that she will get hurt again. The two met when they were 16. Jake immediately fell in love with Charley, but she tried to deny the attraction to the "bad boy from Chicago". Once she gave in to him, she fell hard. He was her first in all aspects. She loved him. All of this changed when tragedy struck 8 months into their relationship. Something so tragic that it caused them to split and Jake moving back to Chicago.

Back in college, when Charley realizes that avoidance is no longer possible, she agrees to hear him out. All she feels is pain when she is around him. She is still afraid of being hurt, but she still loves him like no other. One thing she cannot get passed is the fact that Jake was not alone on his adventure to Edinburgh. He brought along his current girlfriend Melissa, who knows ALL about Charley. She knows about the relationship and she knows that Charley was Jake's first love. This is something Charley knows that she will have to learn to live with, although she doesn't want to. She sees the love he still holds for her in his eyes. You will begin to question whether Jake stays with Melissa, or if he goes back to his one TRUE love, Charley. Was it truly over?

There is so much story between these two. I started reading and could not put it down. It was the case of "what happens next?" I didn't want to stop reading. Now that I have finished the book, I am upset that I have to wait until 2014 to read the sequel! Samantha Young has definitely made her way into my favorite author's category. I can't wait to read what is yet to come. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did, although I am sure that you will! Happy reading!

I conquer with everything Michelle's shared in her reflection of Into the Deep. I also loved the novel and can't wait to know what next. New adult fans will devour this book in one sitting. Samantha Young fans don't need us to tell you its great, you already know.
