An unforgettable epic romantic thriller about a girl from the future who might be able to save the world . . . if she lets go of the one thing she’s found to hold on to.

Follow the rules. Remember what happened. Never fall in love.

This is the story of seventeen-year-old Prenna James, who immigrated to New York when she was twelve. Except Prenna didn’t come from a different country. She came from a different time—a future where a mosquito-borne illness has mutated into a pandemic, killing millions and leaving the world in ruins.

Prenna and the others who escaped to the present day must follow a strict set of rules: never reveal where they’re from, never interfere with history, and never, ever be intimate with anyone outside their community. Prenna does as she’s told, believing she can help prevent the plague that will one day ravage the earth.

But everything changes when Prenna falls for Ethan Jarves.

From Ann Brashares, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series, The Here and Now is thrilling, exhilarating, haunting, and heartbreaking—and a must-read novel of the year.

Prenna is from the future. A future that is not so bright where Mosquitos carrying fatal diseases have wiped out most of the people she knew and loved. Ethan is from the present. Prenna could save the future, her past, if she only follows the rules. Rules that forbid her to become intimate with any of the natives. But, Prenna falls for Ethan. Where does that leave the future? Her past?

Oh, where do I begin? The Here and Now is definitely one of those books that makes me exciting for reading. Books dealing with time travel, almost always, can be tricky and, need to be read carefully for fear of becoming totally confused. (Or maybe that's just me.) But, that was not the case for The Here and Now and that is all due to Ann Brashares' writing. Brashares has a fantastic writing style that I could read over and over again! Granted, I never got around to reading The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants but rest assured I will never pass up an Ann Brashares book again!

I loved Prenna! Her name, her "voice," which again is due to Brashares, and her whole existence. And, okay I'll admit Ethan isn't a fictional boy I'll swoon over for long after this but, his gentle way of caring for Prenna is totally adorable. I loved their story!

The Here and Now is a must read with it's page turning, twist at every turn, suspense! Pick up your copy April 8th!

  2. Great review! I'm glad to see that you enjoyed Here and Now! I got it from Netgalley too, but I've been a little cautious about since I have heard some negative things. I loved The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants though, so hopefully I will like this one too!
