Unbeknownst to most of humankind, a powerful network of witches thrives within the shadows of society, using their magic to keep the world in balance. But they are being eliminated—and we will all pay if their power falls…

When Elyse MacAllister’s great-aunt Eleanora, the woman who raised her, becomes deathly ill, Lyse puts her comfortable life in Georgia on hold to rush back to Los Angeles. And once she returns to Echo Park, Lyse discovers her great-aunt has been keeping secrets—extraordinary secrets—from her.

Not only is Lyse heir to Eleanora’s Victorian estate; she is also expected to take her great-aunt’s place in the Echo Park coven of witches. But to accept her destiny means to place herself in deadly peril—for the world of magic is under siege, and the battle the witches now fight may be their last…

The Witches of Echo Park must be my first Adult paranormal that deals witches. I could’ve sworn from the cover this was a Young Adult novel. The model of the book is rather young. Doesn't it reminds you of Sabrina, The Teenage Witch? So I was impress to read some smut while reading then realized this was actually an Adult novel! Ha! Seriously, I need to start reading the summary before just randomly reading books… but those are the best, right?

Elyse world is turned upside when her aunt, Eleanora, calls and tells her she is dying of cancer. Devastated with the news, Elyse flies to her not knowing her life is about to change forever. Eleanora is a witch and before dying she wants to tell the truth about the family history and pass along the family line to Elyse. But there are others who want to stop the line.

One of the reasons why I like reading YA paranormal is because they usually tend to stay under the paranormal topic. With The Witches of Echo Park, I had a hard time reading because the book jump from one to another. Another issue I had is the many alternative point of views. In addition, the story switches from past to present tense, which had me confused at times. Nonetheless, the story had a good vibe and mystery. As for the sex parts, some were good, others were awkward. Along with the fact that it includes rape. So if you are sensitive to this topic, be warned. Overall, I thought the story was okay for my tasting but others may enjoy it.

  1. I remember Amber Benson from Buffy, didn't know she writes! Don't think I'd be ok with the sensitive issue you mentioned but thanks for the review.
