Can the best thing happen at the worst time?

Her dad went crazy. Her mom left town. She has bills to pay and a little sister to look after. Now is not the time for level-headed seventeen-year-old Lucille to fall in love. But love—messy, inconvenient love—is what she's about to experience when she falls for Digby Jones, her best friend's brother. With blazing longing that builds to a fever pitch, Estelle Laure's soulful debut will keep readers hooked and hoping until the very last page.

With an unstable father and the abandonment of her mother, Lucille is all on her own to take care of her younger sister. Top top this off, her best friend is giving her the silence treatment during her hard times. What a friend!

Although I did not connect with any of the characters of this story, Lucille is the type of heroine you root for. She is worthy of your cheers. The girl has it rough but she is not going down easily. Why wouldn't you cheer for her?! Her story will choke you with pain and you will wonder how is it possible for parents to be as cruel enough to let their kids suffer.

Even though the story left me questioning many things, the story is yet enjoyable. Reading someone's struggles is hard, let alone this person that is very young. She is being the parent her mother and father could not be. Her romantic interest was not as interesting, as I thought he was a douche. Yet, the ending does brings you hope.

Overall, I liked this story and those who love contemporary should give this story a try.

  1. It seems like this was a deep thinking kind of book which left you pondering a lot of matters, but not like it was a story you could connect to too much. I don't think this is one for me because I am a character driven reader and you couldn't really connect to them :/
