One secret can destroy two relationships. Teresa loves her life, her husband, and her children. But in the back of her mind, she always wonders what if. One night of passion with her first love decades ago changed her life forever. She never imagines the choice she made all those years ago could affect her daughter’s happily ever after now. Allison’s life is on track. She has an amazing boyfriend and is finally about to achieve everything she’s always dreamed of. Everything is perfect, until her mother’s behavior has her questioning everything she ever believed about her parents’ relationship. What is her mother hiding and why? Will one lie destroy them both?

All’s Wright in Love & Lies by Colleen Young is the new book by this author, whom I discovered a few years ago and I absolutely love her previous series (Taking Flight Trilogy). I wasn’t sure what to expect when I first read the summary, but as soon as I read the first chapter I knew I was going to be into it, and I was definitely hooked.

The story focuses around Teresa and her daughter Allison. We go back and forth between the past and the present, showing how Teresa’s childhood, and the guy she was in love with when she was growing up, impact her daughter’s present and future. Teresa’s childhood love, Christopher, comes back into her life after she has grown up, married (to a man she really does love and adores her marriage), and has children of her own, in the most unexpected way. Christopher is also married (unhappily) and has a child as well. Now the two of them have to navigate their re-connection in life to fit into the highly complicated situation they find themselves in now. Teresa is obviously keeping things from her daughter, and her husband, and you think all is obvious at first as to what that is, but the development of the story by this author really keeps you in suspense and constantly surprised as to how it will start to play out.

There were times when I was highly disappointed in the way Teresa behaved, and the decisions she made, but that really just made me love the story more, because it was REAL! People don’t do and act the way they are supposed to all the time. Emotions, feelings, confusion, always come into play when you are human and are in a situation you could have never predicted. In the end you don’t really know which way to feel, what outcome to route for, because it seems like a win-win/lose-lose situation no matter which way you are feeling. How does Allison, her daughter, directly become affected by this whole situation? Oh, wouldn’t you like to know, but I promise you it gets complicated.

I HIGHLY recommend this book (and am excited to know that there is sequel to it coming out…hopefully soon), but not just that, I really recommend this author to anyone looking for some good reads. Colleen has a way of taking the classic love story and putting a new, exciting and realistic twist on it. There are so many times when I read love stories that I roll my eyes because they always go down the cliché route. The author doesn’t really make you work for it. They just give you the obvious and expected route, but Colleen really knows how to make her characters have real. Not everything is unfolded perfectly. Sometimes life sucks, sometimes bad things happen to good people, and sometimes to get to the happily ever after you have to go through some tough stuff. I give this book 5 stars because I want you all to go out there and read it and love it as much as I did!
