Review for #MegaConOrlando2019

I know I am very late with this article, so I apologize in advance to our readers, but especially to the lovely people at MegaCon. I was studying for my licensing exam and then dealing with a few health issues that were not fun at all. But, as promised, here it is, even if it is late. Better late than never ;)

In case I haven’t said this enough times before, MegaCon Orlando is definitely one of my favorite cons ever. It’s just so much fun! Not to mention it keeps growing and growing every year, to the point that it is now one of the largest of the country. It is no secret I am a geek and a fangirl, and at MegaCon I get to unleash those two sides of me completely and it’s considered absolutely normal there. Every year they bring amazing guests, there are spectacular cosplays, and incredible contests and parties. This con has nothing to envy any of the bigger and more famous cons because it has definitely got it all!

So, without further ado, here is my summary for MegaCon 2019 (that took place May 16-19, 2019 in the Orange County Convention Center).

Cosplays
I love walking towards and into any con because you see your favorite characters from different fandoms come to life and walking around everywhere, interacting with each other like you can only see at cons. In the real world, this is called cosplay. The dedication and love and time these fellow geeks put into their cosplay is nothing short of admirable (I say it because a- I have no patience or time to do this and b- no talent, so you guys have my biggest respect!). To be honest, if I were to post here every single amazing cosplay I see at MegaCon, it would be the never-ending article. So, unfortunately, I have to hand pick a few that really stood out and share them with you all.

This guy went ALL out with his cosplay of the T-1000 from Terminator 2: Judgement Day. How cool is this?!

As a big Potterhead, I had to include this incredible cosplay of the Malfoys with Bellatrix Lestrange (also, this will totally be me when I get older too!)

I couldn’t stop laughing when I saw this cosplay of Odin holding a baby Loki. I love it when they get creative

Seeing as Zachary Levi was present at this con (I will get to that in a bit), there were plenty of Shazams walking around. Here are some of the best ones we found

Shazam vs Superman (can we please have this happen in one of the movies? Mkthanks)

And Shazam Mary posing in front of a poster of her foster brother Shazam himself

Star Wars is always big at cons:

This Disney Princess/Star Wars mashup was so dope!

As well as Disney cosplays:
I call this picture "Badass Princesses"

How amazing was this Maleficent one? Look at those wings!

Gender Bender Cuzco from “The Emperor’s New Groove”, one of my most favorite Disney movies that was so underrated (it’s hysterical, so I don’t know why it was so underrated!)

Maui!

Doctor Who cosplays are always present too, especially when David Tennant is also in attendance:

And finally, superheroes (Marvel and DC alike) can never be amiss:

The Panels
If you’ve read my covers for previous cons before, you’ll know the panels are my all-time favorite part of the cons! It brings out the fangirl in me and I love, love, love seeing my favorite celebrities just be themselves, answering fan questions, and just letting us bask in their glory. I didn’t attend to too many panels this year, but the few that I did, here are the pics I have:

David Tennant
I’ve seen David before and he was as amazing, gracious, funny, and sweet as always. He’s just so humble and shines his own glorious light on us all.

John Barrowman
I have lost count how many times I’ve seen John Barrowman in a con, but I can never ever tire of him. He is absolutely amazing, the best! He’s funny, he’s raw, he’s glittery and high-heeled fun!

Mike Colter
Ever since he came out in the first season of Jessica Jones, I developed a crush on this guy. I was so excited to meet him and go to his panel. He’s so sweet and his voice so soothing. He was also funnier than you’d expect. The last picture is of my photo-op with him. I asked him to please carry me (he IS Luke Cage after all) and he very graciously agreed to do it. Thank you again, Mike for making my dream come true!

The Goonies!
For any of us who grew up in the 80s, getting to see a Goonies panel was a dream come true! I am so happy to have been able to get to see them in person!

Last, but certainly NOT least. The highlight of my weekend and the main reason for me to have gone to the con:

Zachary Levi
Many people are just getting to know him now, him playing the titular character of his latest movie: Shazam and all, but I’ve been a big Zach fan for a while. When I went to San Diego Comic Con in 2014, one of my goals was to get into one of his panels or parties and, hopefully, get to see him in person. So this is a dream that has been 5 years in the making and, boy, was it worth the wait. Yes, he is as charming, and charismatic, and beautiful, and sweet, and goofy as you’ve seen him be in interviews. He only made me fall even more in love with him after he not only said he loved my shirt (which I specifically bought to take that pic with him!), but complied with my very silly picture request. I had never left a photo op feeling flushed and with my heart racing so hard and fast like I did that day. Ok, enough of my fangirling, enjoy the few good pictures I was able to get (he moves so much it is very hard to get a good picture of him!) and then of my picture with him at the photo-op booth.

Thank you for reading if you’ve made it this far!!

Stay tuned for more coverage and some great con news coming up soon!
