In the new film The 5th Wave, four waves of increasingly deadly attacks have left most of Earth decimated. Against a backdrop of fear and distrust, Cassie (Chloë Grace Moretz) is on the run, desperately trying to save her younger brother. As she prepares for the inevitable and lethal 5th wave, Cassie teams up with a young man who may become her final hope - if she can only trust him.
The 5th Wave is the others' final attack - their plan for wiping out the entire human race has so far worked with only a few survivors left. And now it's time for them to finish what they started. Cassie's only goal is to save her younger brother, Sammy, and make sure that he is safe. Or as safe as anyone can be during The 5th Wave.
As a lover of film one of my favorite parts of watching movies is when the entire audience gets into the movie. And that is exactly what happened when I was watching this film. One of the best parts of watching films is when you come together with complete strangers and enter into a world and for a couple hours you're all on the same journey. Sure this can be a scary notion - I mean they are strangers in that theater with you. But to me that's the beauty of it. And with The 5th Wave this audience was a pure joy to experience this story with. We all cheered, we all laughed, some of us commentated on certain things - which would make the rest of us laugh. But I'm positive that we all left the theater thinking that this film was great.
You are taken on an Action-Adventure right from the start. I know the couple I sat next to hadn't read the book - had no idea that it was a book - so they were asking me about it before the movie started. When the movie started I noticed the couple was already on the edge of their seat with wonder at where the story would take them next.
Lately I've been completely into alien things - I blame X-Files for that - and honestly this is the kind of alien story that I had been wanting and needing since I got on this alien binge. Alien's that are just downright evil. And the film makes you hate these aliens. They show you the heartbreak, the havoc, the danger that they cause. They show you the children that are being affected by such an evil power that is brought over the world. It makes you sit and wonder: if aliens were to ever encounter earth would they be the little green fellows who tell us they come in peace or would they be like The Others and just make you wish that everything could go back to how it was?
Fans of the book will absolutely - I think - love this movie. And people who haven't read the book will absolutely love this movie; but I encourage you to read the book first and then go see the movie! It makes the experience that much more enjoyable.
