Movie Review: Hereafter

Hereafter
Director: Clint Eastwood
Cast: Matt Damon, Cecile de France, Bryce Dallas Howard
Runtime: 129 mins
Rating: PG-13
Released: October 22nd 2010

Summary: (from IMDB) A drama centered on three people -- a blue-collar American, a French journalist and a London school boy -- who are touched by death in different ways.

Yes I truly was disappointed in this film. I had high expectations for it since Clint Eastwood directed and Matt Damon stars. The pace of the movie was very slow. The sequence where the tsunami happen is actually probably the best part of the movie because of the graphics and the excitement it brought. Since the tsunami happen at the beginning at the movie it set me up for a movie full of excitement. After that part everything just drastically slowed down. Another thing that took away from the rating is all the French speaking parts, I had to read the subtitles and miss what was going on. What was a bit cool, was seeing the London Book fair and seeing publishers I'm familiar with such as Simon & Schuster. So I'm glad i never made it out to the movie theater to watch since I would have been let down. Its definitely a DVD rental. Who can watch, well probably the guys will loose interest since there is no action whatsoever. I wished I could give it better props.

  1. I didn't really like this either. It was slow and reading all those subtitles got to me. Thanks for the review!

  2. I agree. I didn't make it even half way through before leaving the room. Of course there was more than just it being boring that I left. But I won't go into that here. Very unfortunate movie.

  3. I too was disappointed in this film. The tsunami was the highlight of the film! It just seemed to drag as each character was introduced and their respective stories told. I liked the book fair too. I blame the script. The story has great potential but the momentum was sadly lacking. I wrote a review for Hereafter at: Adventures in a Not So Unusual Life.
