Summary: (from goodreads) Seventeen-year-old Allison Spencer thought her life was completely normal - or as normal as it could be for an animal empath known as "Crazy Animal Girl." But when her older brother disappeared and her parents moved the family 400 miles away to try to find some answers, she discovered friendship and love in a supernatural world she never knew existed and learned some shocking truths about herself and her family.

The Hollow of Mont Noir, the first book in the HOWL series is a good story that is easy to jump into and even easier to get lost in. Allison Spencer is your average 17 year old girl who just happens to have the not so average ability to of being an animal empath. Her life gets even stranger after the sudden disappearance of her brother Logan. Which leads her family to leave their home in Maryland and make the 400 mile journey to the small farm town of Mont Noir near the Adirondack Mountains. There she learns more about her brothers disappearance, the monsters that truly lurk in the night, the meaning of true friendship and of course true love.

As far as supernatural romances go it is a fun read. The characters are like able . Allison is a strong character with a good sense of self. Her romantic relationship with Riordan, a self-imposed outcast, doesn’t take away from or all of a sudden enhance who she is. Some stories have the female lead find who she really is due to the love she finds, Allison however doesn’t need to find herself. I really enjoyed that about her character, she is strong and just trying to keep a handle of the situation she was thrown into. At times it was somewhat predictable but that didn’t take way from the story or its characters. As strange as it may sound it actually added to the charm in the story.

In 198 pages Jennifer Krey writes a sweet romance with a supernatural backdrop that is truly a good start to a series that is sure to have some twists, turns and like any good book some heartache. I wanted to read more and wasn’t ready to leave this small town and its inhabitants both human and supernatural alike.
