After surviving four years with a commitment-phobic boyfriend, Elizabeth wants nothing more than to settle down. Too bad the man she desires, Marshall Roderick, leaves her flustered, trembling, and unable to utter a single word when he’s near.

Assuming he’s the very definition of a womanizing bachelor, Elizabeth relegates him to fantasyland and makes no move to get to know him. That is, until a chance encounter along the shores of Lake Superior leads to drinks and a steamy romance.

Confident, successful, and freakishly handsome, Marshall is everything Elizabeth has been looking for. But when an unthinkable act of violence shakes them both to the core, she discovers that Marshall isn’t as carefree and put-together as he led her to believe.

Now it’s up to Marshall and Elizabeth to figure out if their love can heal the scars of the past and turn them into the people they’ve always wanted to be.
This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

Elizabeth is a girl who has always lived in her twin sisters shadows. She hasn't ever really felt like her life was on track, and she's not sure if that's due to the fear of failing or to just being comfortable where she is. Having her eyes on Marshall since he first came to the hotel she works at she never thinks that he has possibly been thinking of her too. When it finally becomes apparent that he has she has to decide whether or not to pursue this new relationship.

I absolutely loved the romance between Elizabeth and Marshall. He was super adorable, and really sweet. I kept wondering if he would turn out to be a total jerk and I would always be happily surprised when  he would continue to be his sweet self. He treated Elizabeth with such care, it made you wish that you would find your own Marshall, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I was a little frustrated with Elizabeth. I felt as if she was very back-and-forth with her feelings. One minute she'd be angry because she felt like he was a player, the next she was planning how to seduce him. Or she was really clingy right at the start--now I might be biased because I've never had something like what they have, but I feel like he had a right to go to his sister when she needed help rather than stay with Elizabeth. But that's just me.

I really enjoyed the story arc, I liked that Elizabeth was able to slowly start to work towards what she wanted out of life. It's nice to see because I almost feel as if I'm in the same rut that she was in, in the beginning of the book. The one where she has a job because it gives her money, where she's not working toward her dream job. To see her go from there to actually pursuing her dreams is a story of inspiration--to me at least. And that I really liked.

  1. Great review, Bri! The romance sounds really great in this and I love the sounds of Marshall! I'm not a big fan of hot/cold drama within a relationship but it all depends how much I'd understand what she's going through. Sounds like a fun read overall!
