The Witch Hunter
The Witch Hunter #1
Author: Virginia Boecker
Reading Level: Young Adult
Genre: Paranormal | Witches
Released: June 2nd 2015
Publisher: Little, Brown Books for Young Readers

The magic and suspense of Graceling meet the political intrigue and unrest of Game of Thrones in this riveting fantasy debut.

Your greatest enemy isn't what you fight, but what you fear.

Elizabeth Grey is one of the king's best witch hunters, devoted to rooting out witchcraft and doling out justice. But when she's accused of being a witch herself, Elizabeth is arrested and sentenced to burn at the stake.

Salvation comes from a man she thought was her enemy. Nicholas Perevil, the most powerful and dangerous wizard in the kingdom, offers her a deal: he will save her from execution if she can break the deadly curse that's been laid upon him.

But Nicholas and his followers know nothing of Elizabeth's witch hunting past--if they find out, the stake will be the least of her worries. And as she's thrust into the magical world of witches, ghosts, pirates, and one all-too-handsome healer, Elizabeth is forced to redefine her ideas of right and wrong, of friends and enemies, and of love and hate.

Virginia Boecker weaves a riveting tale of magic, betrayal, and sacrifice in this unforgettable fantasy debut.

The Witch Hunter's Dream Movie Cast

When creating a character, I always like to have a physical idea of what they look like before I begin. I most often choose someone from a movie or tv show--someone I’ve never met (I think that might be too strange, to base a character on someone I know. That might take art imitating life a bit too far.). I don’t usually share this “cast list” because I think readers prefer to envision for themselves what a character looks like and, of course, we all have different ideas as to who we find attractive. But now that my arm has been twisted *wink* here’s glimpse into who I see as each character in The Witch Hunter.

Elizabeth Grey: Saoirse Ronan, specifically from the movie Hanna. The long, unruly hair, the big, pale blue eyes, the soft, accented voice, the toughness…she’s the perfect Elizabeth.

John Raleigh: A young(er) Aaron Taylor-Johnson. That hair! That face! That--ahem--physique! Gorgeous. Watch him in the video for the R.E.M. song Uberlin and I dare you not to fall in love with him. Go on. I dare you.

Caleb Pace: Caleb is really tough for me. He’s the only character I can’t really pinpoint to any one person but the closest I can get is Toby Regbo from Reign (though perhaps a bit less preening…) But the wavy hair, the pretty face, and the preference for posh, dark-haired women is spot on.

George: Two words: Logan Lerman. Perfect.

Blackwell: Christopher Eccleston, specifically from the movie Elizabeth. Shaved head, short beard, over-the-top clothes, dark, meanacing look…it’s pretty much a match. (NB: the character of Blackwell is based on the Duke of Norfolk and Christopher Eccleston plays him in the movie. As Blackwell would say, “there are no coincidences.”)

Nicholas: Jeremy Irons from The Borgias. Nicholas is no Pope, it’s true, but those red robes are on point.

Schuyler: Jamie Campbell Bower, the way he looked in the tv show Camelot. Skinny, tall, blond, lips. He works a good Schuyler to me.

Fifer: She is 100% Emma Stone to me. All red hair, freckles, gravelly voice, and sass.

Peter: Clive Owen playing Sir Walter Raleigh in the movie Elizabeth: The Golden Age. A political pirate called Raleigh? Also not a coincidence.
