She is the most powerful Jinni of all. He is a boy from the streets. Their love will shake the world...

When Aladdin discovers Zahra's jinni lamp, Zahra is thrust back into a world she hasn't seen in hundreds of years -- a world where magic is forbidden and Zahra's very existence is illegal. She must disguise herself to stay alive, using ancient shape-shifting magic, until her new master has selected his three wishes.

But when the King of the Jinn offers Zahra a chance to be free of her lamp forever, she seizes the opportunity—only to discover she is falling in love with Aladdin. When saving herself means betraying him, Zahra must decide once and for all: is winning her freedom worth losing her heart?

As time unravels and her enemies close in, Zahra finds herself suspended between danger and desire in this dazzling retelling of Aladdin from acclaimed author Jessica Khoury.

Zahra and Aladdin are two unforgettable characters that will have you swooning from page one. I really did not expect to enjoy this story as much as I did. It was quite the surprise to really sit back and enjoy a good story. Definitely a story everyone should read, specially those lovers of Disney's stories.

The Forbidden Wish is the story of Zahra. She is a jinni who has been trapped in her lamp over 500 years. You must thing she is ancient, boring and bossy. However, Zahra is completely the opposite. She is such an amazing character. She is very genuine, sweet, yet powerful. Her only flaw has been to fall in love with a human, which is a crime in this world. This is the very crime that has put her in this condition. Yet with her wits, you will sympathy her. She hasn't had an easy life.

Now that Zahra has a new master, she is patiently waiting to grant his wishes. As she awaits to grant Aladdin's wishes, she is given a deal by the jinni's king and this will set her free. But this will require Zahra to betray Aladdin. Even though she is easily falling for him. Zahra will have to choose to follow her heart or the will of being set free.

Between Zahra and Aladding, one cannot pick a character to love the most. They're both equally worthy of your love. Both amazing! They are adorable together as they are apart. Of course you want them together and forever. They both have suffer enough and having them together will make everyone happy.

As I finished this story, I googled the author, Jessica Khoury, and realized this is not a first novel I've read of hers. I really enjoy Vitro and I honestly need to read the rest of her books. Between Vitro and The Forbidden Wish, this one exceed. It is more than a good story, it is a great one. I hope everyone keeps this a try because honestly, I really loved this retelling.

  1. OOoh nice review! I've already ordered this one because I love a good fairy tale retelling! I've never actually read Aladdin, but have watched the Disney movie about a million times, so I probably would have a hard time separating the two! LOL! Cannot wait to read this one as it sounds incredible and with such a different twist to the Disney tale as well! Very nice review!
