The Brightest Stars
Published by Frayed Pages, Inc.
In Stores September 18, 2018
Internationally bestselling author Anna Todd returns with a gripping novel about a young woman’s quest to keep her family together, despite the lies that are tearing them apart.

Karina knows the harsh realities of military life. And like anyone who has grown up around an army base, she knows the background noise that follows a soldier home from war. That’s why she’s forging her own quiet life in her own little house. But she hasn’t turned her back on her family. She’s the glue that holds them together—when her father is deployed, when her brother, Austin, has another brush with the law.

Karina knows that she has to look after herself, that she can’t always fix what’s broken. But when Austin’s behavior worsens and her father’s reactions grow more extreme, Karina feels her own edges beginning to fray. That’s when she meets him—a closed book she’s desperate to open.

At just twenty, Kael is a handsome, brooding soldier struggling with the aftermath of two tours in Afghanistan. He’s emotionally damaged and closed off. Quiet doesn’t begin to describe him. But as Karina gets used to his stable presence, she finds it hard to ignore the way he makes her feel. In their time together, she finds the stillness she has always wanted and never found. She lets down her guard. And she lets herself fill in the blanks about this mysterious man.

But illusions quickly made are quickly shattered. That’s when Karina has to find her own courage—to untangle the truth from the lies, and decide what she’s going to do about it.

A riveting story about the love and lies, THE BRIGHTEST STARS will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

Book Review: The Spring Girls by Anna Todd - #BookGiveaway

The Spring Girls
Author: Anna Todd
Reading Level: Adult Fiction
Genres: Chick Lit | Coming of Age
Released: January 2nd 2018
Review Source: Gallery Books

Four sisters desperately seeking the blueprints to life—the modern-day retelling of Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women like only Anna Todd (After, Imagines) could do.

The Spring Girls—Meg, Jo, Beth, and Amy—are a force of nature on the New Orleans military base where they live. As different as they are, with their father on tour in Iraq and their mother hiding something, their fears are very much the same. Struggling to build lives they can be proud of and that will lift them out of their humble station in life, one year will determine all that their futures can become.

The oldest, Meg, will be an officer’s wife and enter military society like so many of the women she admires. If her passion—and her reputation—don’t derail her.

Beth, the workhorse of the family, is afraid to leave the house, is afraid she’ll never figure out who she really is.

Jo just wants out. Wishing she could skip to graduation, she dreams of a life in New York City and a career in journalism where she can impact the world. Nothing can stop her—not even love.

And Amy, the youngest, is watching all her sisters, learning from how they handle themselves. For better or worse.

With plenty of sass, romance, and drama, The Spring Girls revisits Louisa May Alcott’s classic Little Women, and brings its themes of love, war, class, adolescence, and family into the language of the twenty-first century.

The Spring Girls is said to be a modern retelling of Little Women, which I can't recall if I actually read the original. I know I have seen the movie version of Little Women, but can't say if I read the original story. So with that being said, I just had the knowledge of the movie version to compare to The Spring Girls. Which I could see how they could have similarities.

The Spring Girls is about Amy, Beth, Jo and Meg. They are military "brats" pretty much. The dad is overseas and they are home with mom only. So you can imagine the craziness. If you have this many sisters, then you know exactly what I'm talking about. The story is modern, so it's all about their life issues in 2017. Each sister is different from the next and as much as they love each other, they hate each other too. I wasn't bored by the sisters, but I also wasn't captured by any one in particular. During the book, I had moments that reminded me of my youth and then others were I caught myself rolling my eyes. What made me stick to the story were the moments that did uplift you.

The pace is slow and steady throughout the whole book. There are a handful of moments, that make you smile and then it's back to drama lama. The Spring Girls is an easy read. It's definitely different from Anna Todd's other novels.

We are able to give away a paperback copy of The Spring Girls to one lucky reader, thanks to Gallery Books. Please fill out the entry form below.

APOLLYCON 2017 Blog Tour - Anna Todd Spotlight Guest Post + Giveaway

We are so excited to spotlight Anna Todd, one of many Apollycon 2017 attending authors. If you haven't read any of her books, now is the time to pick her infamously favored series, After.

Thing you're most excited about for Apollycon 2017

I’m the most excited to meet the readers and hang out with all of the authors. I’ve never been to Apollycon before and I’m so, so excited and honored to even be invited! I can’t wait. Plus, it’s in Florida, so the weather should be great.

Last book you read:
I’m finishing The Summer Garden by Paullina Simons right now and I’m so not ready for this story to be over. The Summer Garden is the third book in the Bronze Horseman Trilogy and it’s one of my favorite books I’ve ever read. Shura, the main male character, has quickly made his way to my top 3 favorite book characters OF ALL TIME. This trilogy is so heartbreaking and beautiful and so poetically written and the emotions just jump off of the page. I have been stalling to finish it because I’m not ready to say goodbye to Tatiana and Shura. *cries*

Last thing that made you cry:
The book I mentioned above :P During the first one, I cried  a little, it was sad, but the second and third were even worse. I’ve been tortured by this author, but I’ve loved every second of it.

Best moment as an author:
I have so many amazing moments as an author. I still can’t believe that I’m even an author! I could have never imagined my life to turn out this way and I have to pinch myself at least once a week. If I had to choose, I would say that my favorite moments are when I hear from readers that my books have made them read more, or even write their own stories. There’s nothing better to me than my words somehow inspiring someone.

Favorite place in the world:
My house. I just moved to Los Angeles from Austin and since the move, I’ve been traveling most of the time. Well, this whole year I’ve been traveling :P I love to travel and to meet so many amazing readers from around the world and I’m already filling up my schedule for next year, but I sort of forgot how much I love quiet nights in. My perfect night would be drinking wine with my husband and watching t.v.

ANNA TODD is a first-time writer spending her days in the Austin area with her husband, with whom she beat half the statistics by getting married one month after graduating high school. Between her husband's three deployments to Iraq, she worked odd jobs from a makeup counter to the IRS processing counter. Anna was always an avid reader and boy band and romance lover, so now that she’s found a way to combine the three she’s enjoying living a real-life dream come true.

Book Review: Nothing More by Anna Todd

Nothing More
Nothing More #1
Author: Anna Todd
Reading Level: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary
Released: September 20 2016
Review Source: Gallery Books

Book 1 of a new series featuring After worldwide fan-favorite Landon Gibson as he leaves Washington to navigate love and life in New York City. At the end of the After Ever Happy, Landon got married—but readers everywhere have been wondering who will get to call the nicest boy in the After series their forever love? Read it and find out!

“I'm so excited for everyone to get to know Landon Gibson. Whether you're just hearing about him or already know him from the After series, I know that readers are going to love his story. He's kind and fiercely loyal, and when he falls in love, he loves hard.” (Anna Todd, New York Times and #1 international bestselling author of the After series)

We all fell in love with Hessa, and everything that they were. We loved being a part of their world - so much so that we now get a new look into their world. Landon - most people's favorite character apart from Tessa or Hardin. We now get his story. He has a love life, which we really don't see in the After series. So to be able to follow him is something that most of Todd's fans will love to do.

It's such a different style of writing. Yes you can tell that it is Todd but we're use to Hardin. Hardin who throws everyone on a rollercoaster ride and gives them whiplash. We sit there cursing him while loving him and wondering how he got us wrapped around his fingers.

Yet Landon is the exact opposite. Landon is the light to Hardin's dark.

Landon is the nice guy that almost every single girl says they want - until they go for the Hardin's of the world. He takes care of the women in his life to the best of his abilities, and he cares deeply for them no matter what.

It was a nice break to read one of Todd's books and not have to sit there and yell at the book then cry at the book. There were moments that made me "awwwhhhh" and want to hug Landon, and we did catch glimpses of Hardin (which, I'm biased but I feel like those were my favorite parts).

It also ends in a way where I can't wait for Nothing Less because, while Landon is okay with where he's at, there's not really any closure for him in certain parts of his arc. So I'm excited to see where Todd decides to take Landon.

Book Review: Before by Anna Todd + ARC Giveaway

Before
The After Series #5
Author: Anna Todd
Reading Level: New Adult
Genre: Contemporary
Released: December 8, 2015
Review Source: Gallery Books

Book Five of the After series—Anna Todd’s Wattpad fanfiction that racked up one billion reads online and captivated romance readers across the globe! As told by Hardin and other characters, Before will explore the hero’s life before he met Tessa, reveal what happens after After, give you new insights on their turbulent romance—and revel in the awesome power of true love. #HESSA

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

Hardin and Tessa took us all by storm in After, and now it's time to see what was going on through Hardin's mind Before. We know Hardin as the broken boy who needs love and Tessa as the one who fixes Hardin. But we never got to see inside his mind until After We Collided - but now we have Hardin's POV Before.

Let me just go through my emotions. I got this book and cried happy tears. I couldn't believe I had it in my hands. I started reading that night. At first was annoyed seeing as it starts with some surprises - I just wanted to get to the Hessa I knew. Then we got to the good stuff and I was overjoyed. But then I was a little irritated - but then again, when does Hardin not irritate you? But then I ended with happy tears, because let's face it...I love Hardin.

You see...I was irritated with Hardin. But I was only irritated because there were a few ways Todd could go with his thinking during the catalyst of Hessa - trying to not give spoilers away, but those of you who have read After know what I'm talking about. Let's just say I didn't like Hardin's thinking. I had wanted what, after reading Before, I knew I wouldn't get. I feel like I know Hardin - in and out - and I feel like he was exactly how I knew he would be, but that shattered my heart into even more pieces. Which honestly I should expect from Todd by now...

Aside from that Before was amazing. It was nice to see Hardin before Tessa and After Tessa. But what I really loved were the surprises that Todd leaves for us. It honestly made up for my broken heart. I cried mainly during these surprises - and I was glad to get a little piece of perfection.

For those of you wondering if you should read Before, I say YES! A MILLION TIMES YES! And for those of you who haven't even read After can I just ask, what have you been doing?! Go pick up After - finish that series - then pick up Before and have your heart broken and put back together again a million times over by the amazing Anna Todd.

Giveaway: Before by Anna Todd ARC

It's A Muggle Monday Recommendation!

We are not wizards or witches, but muggles. We don't live in a magical world... Hogwarts is not home. But don't let this put you down. We don't need magic to transform our world. We have thousands lives to explore and dystopian worlds to travels. From the words of JK Rowling, "The stories we love the best live in us forever".

It's a Muggle Monday Recommendation is a new weekly meme hosted by Once Upon a Twilight in hope that this story will cast a spell over you and live with you forever.

This week is for a special book that is near to my heart - I've already spotlighted the After series with Muggle Monday, but it brings me great joy that Anna Todd has written Before, which is basically After from Hardin's point of view! What's even better is there's some surprises in there for fans of the After Series!

Seriously though - if you haven't read the After series, read it. Then pick up Before and you won't be disappointed!
