Can I first just start out with a little fan-girl and squee here, please? Because I absolutely adore Sarah J Maas’ A Court of Thorns and Roses series and had been heartbroken when I had thought Wing and Ruin was the end of this band of fun-loving, broken rebels.

Rhysand, Feyre, Azriel, Mor, Cassian, Amren and now Elain and Nesta, as well as the reluctant Lucien and Varian, have joined their ranks in Velaris. A Court of Frost and Starlight is just the short story for the fall and winter season as we can see Rhysand and Feyre after the war, making a life together as High Lord and Lady of the Night Court and rebuilding Velaris, in the winter snow. They are in chaos after the war, but keep tradition and celebrate the Winter Solstice. With all the destruction it helps remind them to be thankful for their lives, loves, friends, their city and its people and not to just wallow in pity and despair.

This really is just a fun, flirty story, which captures Feyre-darling broken once more and all the Mates-who-are-running-from-their-destinies--as I like to call them--are there being stubborn. Then throw in a few hints at the greater danger that will come in the next book of the series, as well as handing over the title of leading lady... I won’t get into too many details here but lets just say that it looks like the next part of this series will be a beautiful doozy, and you won’t want to miss it. Or this book as it actually sets up everything for what lies ahead.

If you’re a fan of this series pick up this book, you won’t regret it.

There are couple of phrases that one must know the situation to appreciate the context. Empress of a Thousand Skies was quite a story that I highly recommend everyone to check it out. Below are some of my favorite quotes:

"Ma'tan sarili," she told him solemnly. It was an everyday Kalusian greeting, but it meant much more than hello and goodbye. It translated into "highest self," and to say it was a pledge to be the best person you could be. And for Rhee, that meant to be honorable, brave and loyal to his memory, to the man she'd known, to Jullian's father. - page 45

The districts of the Works are made up of vampires, wolves, shifters, witches, and I’m in the fifth and arguably most important district, the Patchwork. My father is the leader of our group, and he oversees all of the other factions.

As his only daughter, that makes me the princess of it all. Cool, right? Actually…no. Sure, I live in a mansion and money isn’t an object, but that doesn’t matter because I can’t leave. I have a guard who follows me around 24/7. My father and three older brothers treat me like I’m a fragile piece of glass, never allowed to take an independent step or make any decisions on my own.

It’s beyond frustrating—especially since my father essentially runs my life. He says what I do, when I do it, how I do it, and all that jazz. He tests his formulas and new techniques on me. I’m a walking science experiment.

I hate it.

I hate my life here.

But then he comes along: Killian.

He’s just some vampire…or so I thought.

This book wasn't as I expected, but ended being a thrilling read which gets your heart and natural curiosity going. We got to see point of views from both Judge's and Eva: the innocent victim and the one terrorizing her. It was beyond interesting that one second we were reading an innocent victim's point of view then the next second were diving into a completely different point of view. The point of view of a person who's completely and utterly transfixed on Eva. I must say, I've never read a book with this nature and got the psychopaths's point of view. I loved getting inside Judge's head and found out how he thought, felt, how his mind worked and finding out reasoning behind the utterly psychotic things they did.

"When the car hit Eva, the thump of her body was louder than I expected. It reminded me more of hitting a deer than a possum. I’m not sure why I was surprised."

That was one of the first glimpse we got into Judges head. My first thoughts were "what an absolute nutter". He was completely and utterly out of the right mind. Well and truly nutters with definitely more than a few screws loose in his head. But it only captivated my attention that little bit more. He is crazy, and nobody could seem to figure out who Judge was, when or if he was going to strike again, and who would be his next victim, and that made him dangerous. More dangerous than he already was.

Made For You had a realistic contemporary feel but there was still was a touch of the uncanny with Eva’s “death visions”. For some unknown reason, after Eva's accident, she was prone to seeing how people died. Whenever somebody touched Eva's skin, their death would run through Eva's head like an unwanted thought. She couldn't control, prevent or stop them. While I didn't think it totally fit into the story, it was a crucial plot point which gave it the perfect conclusion.

But it wasn't only the thrilling aspect which made this such a good novel, but also the characters and romance. Though the romance was only slight, and not a dominating part in the novel, there was a perfect balance of it. That Eva was a likable character was a very favourable trait also. Because of Eva's death visions, she sees and knows things nobody else does, yet she doesn't hide things. She communicates, doesn't withhold secrets and doesn't dive head first into danger. She was a logical character and I appreciated that so much.

To clarify: before I found out which gender Judge was, I always thought of him to be male, which is why I'm using that context here. Not as a potential spoiler, but it's surprisingly hard to write a review regarding a person and not say he, his etc.

Rosaline’s starting to think losing Romeo was the best thing that could've happened to her. But when the words she speaks to Juliet lead to a chain of devastating events, the repercussions might not only tear her family apart, but also make it impossible for her and Bryson to be together

I really wanted to read this one because I LOVED the rendition of Romeo and Juliet with Leonardo DiCaprio. I know...I know...that was so "the 90's"...but I was a teenager, what do you expect? I'm really into Contemporary YA Romances right now, so I thought I would give it a try. I'm glad I did! I was expecting a Romeo and Juliet story, but it was so much more than that.

The things I liked about this book was the love story behind it. Rosaline Capulet gets in some major trouble and is sent away from her Romeo to the middle of nowhere. All is lost for her, or so she thinks, until she meets Bryson Mercer. First of all, Bryson is a hottie. Who cares about Romeo when you have Bryson? I really loved the two of them together. Were they perfect? No, but that's what makes this even better. There are some YA Romances I read where it doesn't feel normal or realistic, but I didn't get that with them.

I also liked the plot. Madsen took the idea of a story that's been around forever, but changed it into her own little story. There isn't much about Rosaline in the original Romeo and Juliet, so the skies the limit when it comes to weaving your own story with her. I like that she was a good girl who made a mistake because of a boy. We have all done it. I know I have a time or two!! Bryson is also the hottie bad boy that you picture yourself with. The story line was good and kept me reading to the last page.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend it to my 8th grade students. I think any grade level below that would be a little risky. I hope to read more from this author in the future!!
