First off, I had no idea when I began reading this book, how short it was. I didn't figure out that it had 11 more episodes" as they call it, until I was done and wondering "what the heck". So now you know, this series is a total of 12 episodes. Each episode is written by a different author.

So this episode is focus on the Marshall family. The head of the family, Harrison Marshall, has been in a serious accident and is at the hospital when story begins. Harrison is dealing with life threatening injuries and the family is freaking out.

Due to Harrison's accident, we start to discover that he was involved in more than everyone thought. So when Harrison is transferred to a private hospital, and no one from the family authorized this transfer, things really heat up. They come to find out that a person going by the name "The Fixer"is who transferred him. Who is this Fixer and how are they involved with Marshall?

As far as the story itself, its a lot of information for a small book. You might understand it all and piece it together, but just when you think you know, the book ends. You almost feel cheated. I know I did. So if you like all the Hollywood drama of the rich, then this series will be your thing.

I feel like I repeat myself on every Gena Showalter novel, but what can I say, the woman is my hero. The Closer You Come was a fabulous first installment to the Original Heartbreakers series. I originally read this book a while ago but thought nothing of it to review it, then I realised something...this is the first series by one of my favourite authors which isn't paranormally involved. We've had immortal possessed demons, reject angels, zombie fighters, three individual series connected by aliens, awesome fantasy series', mythological creatures and humans with superpowers but no raw, "normal" contemporary.

I enjoyed The Closer You Come as much as any of the authors novels. We got a glimpse of the upcoming characters from The One You Want #0.5 and I was very happy that Jase was the star of this book. Jase has just been released from prison and is trying to make a life for himself after almost a decade behind bars. Him and his two best friends move to a small town in Oklahoma. He wants to bury his past, set his routes and attempt to make life for himself-something he could never do before.

Brook has lived in Strawberry Valley her whole life. Life is hard for Brook. In between a reckless sister, Jessie Kay, who not only causes Brook Lynn a lot of grief and makes it hard for her to hold down a job, but being her sisters only living family member left it makes Brook Lynn's responsibility to keep her sister safe, even when she spends all free time partying in bars and drinking herself into oblivion.

The characters were so much fun to get to know. The author has a crafty sense of humour, keeping my smiling at the pages. Jase and Brook Lynn's exchanges were fun, cute and compatible like two peas in a pod. The slow build of their relationship and tensions kept me on my toes, and it was well worth the wait when things kicked into gear and they got together.

Fans of Gena Showalter will love this additional series. It's different from what the author usually writes but just as delicious. The Closer You Come was fun, sexy, sweet with a dash of suspense. It's a definite recommended read.

Someone's causing trouble and it's big enough to catch the Execution Underground's attention. Shane, the witch hunter/magic specialist slash genius, is called to deal with the resident trouble maker when the dead are being brought back to life, and husbands are being murdered by their very dead wives. But he can't do it alone, so he asks one of his students for help.

Vera is one of Shane's students who knows all too well about dark magic and the damage it can do. She still has the buzz from her former addiction of dark magic and it's kept her in the loop with it all these years and keeps the flame lit for her addiction. When Shane asks for her help it's the perfect opportunity to redeem herself from the dark she's practiced. Falling in love with the wonderfully nerdy Hunter was just a bonus.

Shane and Vera's story was sweet. Shane's a true gentleman (but can be a a total badass when acquired) and Vera's a lot softer than she looks (but will put you in your place if you underestimate her). They're a very unconventional couple but their pairing was perfect. Shane's definitely my favourite guy so far. He wasn't the typical guy you would expect to be working with the Execution Underground, but Shane was the brains of the operation. He may not be all fists on the job but he didn't need to be. He makes smart sexy.

It combines a student/teacher romance, zombies and my favourite kind of hunter crew all in one book. Although it was a student/teacher romance, it wasn't an expected New Adult type. It was only a minor factor in the book. And the zombies and hunter crew? Awesome.

I don't know who's next (but I have heard Damon's book is going to be last which is killing me) but I really look forward to whatever is next.
