Movie Review: 30th Anniversary of Jim Henson's Labyrint

Labyrinth
Director: Jim Henson's
Writers: Jim Henson, Dennis Lee, Terry Jones
Starring: David Bowie, Jennifer Connelly
MPAA Rating: Rated PG
Official Socials: Website | Facebook | IMDb
Young Sarah is left home alone by her parents and she has to babysit her little brother Toby. But the baby keeps crying and Sarah, while telling him a story to make him sleep, inadvertently conjures from a fantasy world the Goblin King who steals the child and brings him to his castle in the middle of a labyrinth. Sarah has to rescue him before midnight, or the baby will became a goblin...

A fantasy story about the Goblin King and his mischievous ways. When Sarah is frustrated with her baby brother she repeats the words that the Goblin King needs to hear to take the baby away. Realizing what she did is wrong she tries to take back her words. The Goblin King decides to then play a game with Sarah, if she can reach his castle she can get her baby brother back. The problem is that it's in the middle of the Labyrinth.

This is one of my favorite movies ever. I love the fantasy aspects of it and I love the story line. So when I was offered to see the 30th Anniversary by Fathom events I was super excited. And right before the movie they showed a special behind the scenes bit with Jennifer Connelly and Jim Henson's son. They talked about what it was like working with Jim Henson, what it was like working with the puppet, and of course they paid tribute to David Bowie. I'd be lying if I said I didn't cry. I was a puddle by the end of the behind the scenes bit.

It was interesting to see what they do with the puppets and how they maintain them. They now have an exhibit in Georgia that has all of Henson's puppets on display. It made me want to book a trip to Georgia ASAP just to see this exhibit!

And as for the film. I was too young...well I wasn't even born yet...to have seen this film in theaters. So to have the opportunity to see the film on the big screen made my love for Labyrinth and for the film industry grow just a little bit more.
