FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.
20th Century Fox has re-imagined the Fantastic Four Marvel characters in a new film. I am a fan of the 2005 version and its sequel, so I went in believing this would be the case again. I will say I didn't hate it, since hate is such a strong word but did I get blown away, no. Honestly I think that the whole premise just didn't connect with its characters and with us the audience. The movie felt like it was pieced together and the timing was very slow for the majority of the film.
In this Fantastic Four, the famous comic book characters are teenagers/young adults that are recruited to work together and complete a teleport machine. Which they are able to and then discover the machine actually traveled to a planet of unknown origins. The whole beginning and part of the middle of the film revolves around that mainly. This is one of my issues, I feel they focused to long on the pre-teleport building/back story and then the rest was rushed and choppy. So moving on after testing a chimp, they are told NASA will take over the machine and that's when Reed Richards, Johnny Storm and Victor Von Doom decided they are not letting anyone else take the credit over what they build. So they call Reed's old friend Ben Grimm, to join them in using the machine while everyone is asleep, they claim it will only be a few minutes and no one will find out.
This is when the movie begins to finally pick up some pace and elements of what I loved from the 2005 film show themselves. They arrive at this planet and instead of heading back right away, the scientists they are they decided to explore and that's when things go very wrong. The matter from that planet is interrupted that flows on the ground and Victor falls into this green substance and is left behind as the rest of the guys jump back in the machine and Sue Storm helps bring them back but not before they are all affected by this planet in some way, even Sue when the machine arrives back at the lab.
Now begins the next chapter of this movie, time passes and the military have been using Sue, Johnny and Ben as weapons and they need to find Reed, that escaped and has been hiding so they can travel back to the planet they are now calling Zero. Reed wants to find a cure for what happen to them but the military wants to harness the power that planet has. So finally Reed finishes the new machine and they travel back to planet Zero and guess who they run into a year later, Victor. They are shocked that he has survived and then realize Victor is not the same Victor anymore. Victor is now Doom and attacks the base when they bring him back, killing many including Sue and Johnny's dad. They now follow Doom back to planet Zero where he begins to suck our plant into planet Zero's atmosphere, with the plan to kill our planet. And well the Fantastic Four battle Doom until they can defeat him and that's pretty much how it ended, no fanfare, no whistles just 'The End'. It was a very weak ending, which I think they left possibly like that to create more movies.
I want to say go out and see this film this weekend, but I just can't mislead anyone. So my recommendations are wait for it to hit Redbox. I really wanted to be blown away but this film just didn't cut it. I think this is the first Marvel characters movie that I did not enjoy like the rest. We are huge Marvel character fans in my household and my boys were bored by this film also. It's funny to think that we thought Antman was the movie that would fall short and it didn't, we actually enjoyed it very much and this film that I had positive hopes for was the one that actually did not entertain us.
Just released from 20th Century Fox, Constantine Films and Marvel Entertainment comes a new movie poster and the second official trailer of this summer's re-imagining of Marvel's FANT4STIC FOUR.

The Divergent Series : Insurgent is the second in a series of dystopian science fiction films based on the book Insurgent. The book is written by Veronica Roth. The film brings back Shailene Woodley and Theo James as Divergents, Tris and Four, struggling to find their roles in a crumbling faction system and a crumbling Chicago. The film is set just days after the first film in the series, Divergent, ends.
Fans should know that I am a movie watcher, not a book reader. While I have a lot of respect for books and I pick one up now and again, I spend most of my spare time in lines for advance movie screenings. I saw this film on Monday, March 16 in IMAX 3D. I mention this because I don't want to offend all of the fans of the book series. Here, I am only writing about the movie.
First, I would say that if you have the ability to attend this film in IMAX 3D, I very much recommend that you do it. I was blown away by the visual artistry towards the end of the film, during the "sim trials." I don't suggest paying the IMAX 3D often, but this one is totally worth it.
I found the film entertaining. I think fans of the books will love it. Since I had not read Divergent, I didn't know much about the factions other than the ones that were showcased in the first film. The first film dealt with Abnegation, Dauntless and Erudite. This film takes the audience to the factions we didn't see before : Amity, Candor and Factionless. The audience will get to see Amity in all of its harvest glory. They get to travel to Factionless and meet several of rebels. They get to take refuge in Candor, if they are willing to be honest.
The film was not all a great. Some of the dialogue sounds silly, and I am not sure that Shailene Woodley is the best in the role of Tris, especially because Insurgent has very heavy themes and she comes across as whiny. And I was lost during some of the time at Factionless. This section deals heavily with Four's back story, and, again, I haven't read the back story.
Do not leave your chair for the second half of the film. The truth serum scene is moving. The sim trials scenes are phenomenal. Also, Miles Teller, in the role of Peter, delivers some great awkward humor which is peppered through out. It's awkward because you aren't expecting to laugh, but it works well.
Most of the movie is a fun time. They can't all be ground-breaking pieces of cinematic art. And that is a good thing. Sometimes a fun popcorn flick is what's in order. This movie is just that. But don't take my word for it, you can see the film for yourself starting on March 20.
Lionsgate has just released the final trailer of The Divergent Series: Insurgent before the movie hits theaters nationwide on March 20th. But that's not the only exciting news. The tickets are now on sale and if you buy your tickets now via Fandango, MovieTickets.com, AMCTheaters.com and Cinemark.com you will receive a free download of the blockbuster first installment of the 'Divergent' franchise. So you will be able to catch up or experience Divergent again before Insurgent comes out.

Storyline: DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet)to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late. Based on the best-selling book series by Veronica Roth.
The movie will remind you why we fell in love with the world of Divergent. Simply put into one word: Perfect!!!
Everyone behind the making and executing of this film deserves pats on their backs. There isn’t a single thing I can point out that did not work in the film. From the beginning when you see the futuristic beat up city of Chicago, that I have to admit the movie did a better job in creating what the book described as to what I pictured in my head while reading. Just in that one detail, I was blown away. The buildings and machinery that help run the city and the faction clothing were so on point. I really loved that even though it’s set in a dystopian world we were still given colors, textures and beauty throughout the whole film. The way the faction areas were divided made sense and flowed with each other during the movie. I could sit here and pick each thing or moment apart but everything would end with same result. Perfect!
Moving on to our beloved characters. If someone questions what does chemistry look like? All they have to do is watch Divergent and they will see it first hand. From the minor to major characters, I loved them all. I was extremely pleased of course with Four and Tris. If those two didn’t have it then it wouldn’t have matter how great everything else. The main protagonists have to sell it to us so the fans can gobble it up and not leave one crumb behind. Theo James (Four) and Shailene Woodley (Tris) were jaw dropping amazing together and individually too. The age difference did not affect in any way as I thought it might when they were first cast. The “kiss” was hotter than lava. I could have watched them non-stop. They were meant to be Four and Tris. No doubt about it after you watch and experience Divergent. Other characters that stood out were Eric (Jai Courtney), his intensity as the Dauntless leader was fantastic and HOT. He was scary yet you could not take your eyes off him (Theo, too of course). Kate Winslet as Jeanine, holy smokes she made evil look easy. This was no Rose on the Titanic, Winslet owned her role and shows us she can also be the villain. Then you got Peter (Miles Teller) being cocky like we know him to be from other films. The fight between Peter and Tris, OMG! I wanted to jump inside the movie and kick his ass because dayum that was one crazy fight scene. It really looked like she got her ass handed to her. But no worries, Tris shows why she is Divergent and Dauntless and kicks ass eventually. You guys that have read the book know how the story goes. Tris won’t go down without a fight!
Something else that was just WOW, the movie score & soundtrack. I did not want the movie to end or certain scenes to end, so that I could listen to the songs longer. All the song choices are amazing and where they were placed just make the movie stellar. Just wait for that “kiss” the music will add such a sensual vibe to a kiss that’s already sexy to begin with. Ladies you will be thinking, man Woodley is one lucky gal during that “kiss”.
Divergent is probably one of the best book to film adaptation I have seen in a long time, and to get it right on the first film, Summit Ent. really did their homework. Like I mentioned before, everyone behind the making of Divergent needs a standing ovation. Divergent is that AMAZING. After you experience Divergent, you will leave the theater with such a movie hangover, that you’ll be dying to see it again right away. I recommend this movie for everyone. I am excited to go see it again and take my whole family. Those that haven’t read the book, will still enjoy it immensely. So excited that the day has arrived. Happy Divergent Day!
On Tuesday March 3rd, the multi-city Divergent tour stopped in Dallas, Texas to promote the upcoming release of Divergent. RCE/OUaT was part of the red carpet and we were able to ask Jai Courtney and Miles Teller a question each about the film.
We also took several photographs of the Jai and Miles and will share them soon as well. This experience was great and we hope to experience it again for other movies. To end the night, we were able to watch a screening of ‘Divergent’ which was better than the icing on the cake. On march 21st, we will share our full movie review of ‘Divergent’ (we are embargoed). Till then though, I will say that Summit Entertainment did Veronica Roth’s novel justice. The movie was fantastic. I am still in a ‘Divergent’ hangover.
We hope you enjoy our interview and stay tuned as we continue to share more from the Divergent Dallas red carpet event and ‘Divergent’ news.
