SECRET EMPIRE Unites the Marvel Universe this May! - #SecretEmpire

SECRET EMPIRE Unites the Marvel Universe this May!
The Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, Inhumans, Champions, and more galvanize as one

New York, NY—February 10, 2017 — What if your greatest ally was secretly your greatest enemy? Beginning May 3rd, prepare for Marvel Comics’ SECRET EMPIRE! Blockbuster creators Nick Spencer, Steve McNiven, Andrea Sorrentino and Leinil Yu are ready to challenge the entire Marvel Universe as they unite the Avengers, X-Men, Defenders, Champions, Inhumans, Spider-Man, and more, as an unwavering front against the SECRET EMPIRE!

The Marvel Universe is under siege from within! Due to the manipulations of the Red Skull, Captain America, secretly a true believer in the cause of Hydra, uses the trust and respect he has gained over the years to a position where he can enacts Hydra’s ideals against the Marvel Universe and it’s up to all heroes to unite against one of the greatest challenges they have ever faced.

Marvel’s Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso said, “SECRET EMPIRE is the rallying cry for all the heroes -- Avengers, Guardians, Defenders, X-Men, Spider-Man, Deadpool – to put aside their differences and unify in the defense of the Marvel Universe."

That unification is what will be needed to confront Steve Rogers since all the heroes close to Cap have been be influenced by him over the years. SVP and Executive Editor Tom Brevoort said, "Our heroes will be tested both physically and morally against one of the most trusted heroes of all time and that's the aspect of this story our characters face and what forces them to come together."

Forged together as one - the Avengers, the Champions, the Defenders, the Guardians of the Galaxy, the Inhumans, the X-Men, and more will be tested as Hydra’s grip tightens around the Marvel Universe and SECRET EMPIRE unleashes a horde of villains against those who have sworn to protect the innocent. Black Eyed Peas' Will.I.Am Brings Us A Graphic Novel This July!

Many of us know Will.I.Am for his music and being a member of the Black Eyed Peas. So when I say, now you can add graphic novel author, you probably can't believe it. Well believe it, because his all-new graphic novel comes out this July. Check it out below.

The Black Eyed Peas Debut All-New Original Graphic Novel,
MASTERS OF THE SUN – THE ZOMBIE CHRONICLES

New York, NY—March 17, 2017— From the mind of seven-time Grammy award-winning, multi-platinum recording artist will.i.am, from the Black Eyed Peas, comes an all-new graphic novel created with artist Damion Scott (All-New Ghost Rider, Marvel’s Hip-Hop Variants), Marvel Comics presents MASTERS OF THE SUN – THE ZOMBIE CHRONICLES.

Mixing LA Gang culture, B-Boy-ism, and Egyptology, MASTERS OF THE SUN – THE ZOMBIE CHRONICLES fuses together the genres of music and comics and tells the complete tale of a retro futuristic zombie thriller, mixed with action, suspense, and horror unlike anything seen before.

“Few artists have done more to embed Hip-Hop in popular culture than will.i.am and the Black Eyed Peas,” said Marvel Editor in Chief, Axel Alonso.  “So we are thrilled to present this deeply personal story that speaks directly to Hip-Hop aficionados, comic book fans and the intersection of those communities.”

Los Angeles is under attack from an ancient alien God sent to earth to turn its inhabitants into zombies. With a deep love of the Hip-Hop culture, Zulu-X and his crew go head-to-head with a nefarious ancient order to settle a score thousands of years old. What happens next can only be described as the perfect blend of ancient wisdom and street-smarts all rolled into one epic adventure.

“The Black Eyed Peas and I have begun a new journey,” said will.i.am. “We’ve been working on this original story for years and partnering with Marvel to bring this book to life is more than a dream come true.”

Boasting one of the most eclectic ensemble cast of characters, MASTERS OF THE SUN – THE ZOMBIE CHRONICLES delivers a powerful social allegory in the form of a new movement this July from will.i.am, Damion Scott, and Marvel Comics.

#ECCC Day 3 Recap.

Today started fantastically. I woke up and got dressed as Freddy Krueger knowing I was going to meet the man who portrayed him today.

I - as most of you know - am obsessed with films and everything about them. For as long as I can remember I have said that certain people are my "___" husband. So like Aladdin is my cartoon husband. I can't be the only girl who has done this. Anyways...I may have been the only girl to claim that she had a horror movie husband. Because he was my favorite horror villain of all time. And can you guess who that might have been? That's right...the only horror movie villain I have ever dressed up as. Freddy Krueger. So to be getting ready to meet him was basically the best thing ever.

When I was queued up in line I decided I was going to ask him if I could be killing him in the picture. I was worried this would look weird, but if anyone was to bring down Freddy I wanted to be the one to do it. So once I had this plan in my mind I was dead set about doing it. I was first up in line for the 1pm photo ops and I was excited. Once we got up to his photo booth I was a little nervous about asking if I could kill him in the picture or not. But I knew if I didn't that I would regret it. So when it was finally my turn I decided to ask.

I am so 100% glad that I had asked. He was the sweetest man in the planet. He said that I could and then he planned out our picture together. It was like he had choreographed these poses before - which I'm sure he had - but he paid so much attention to the detail and it made me so happy. The inner Freddy Krueger girl was so happy. And honestly - it is the best con picture that I had to date.

After this photo op we walked the floor some and found some great cosplays again. But honestly - when don't you find some great cosplays at comicon?

After this we saw Robert Englund's very condensed panel. He talked a little bit about being a beloved villain, and about how he would like to see the character progress.

He said that because Freddy is a figment of everyone's imagination he would like to see a Freddy film where there are 4 main characters with 4 different Freddy's. A different Freddy for each different character. And I want to know how this hasn't been done yet?! Like imagine it....Freddy is seriously just a figment of everyone's imagination...he kills you in your sleep! So how has this concept not been made to fruition yet? He also apparently has a new video game coming out that he couldn't tell us about, which led them to play the Nightmare On Elm Street video game which made absolutely no sense.

After this we went and tried to sit on a Harry Potter Renaissance panel. We thought this was going to be amazing until we realized that this panel was a bunch of fangirls/fanboys talking about the fandom. It was cool because the two girls were from the band The Parselmouths (if you haven't heard anything from this band and you're a Harry Potter fan please go listen to them) but other than that we weren't really into it.

So we went and waited in line for Millie Bobby Brown's panel. Which I am so glad that we did. When they finally let her line into the panel we were right before they stopped allowing people into the main stage seating area.

Her panel was one of the best panels. She is the most adorable 13 year old I have ever seen. She had been talking about Disney channel a lot because she had been inspired to act from Disney channel - just that she knew she couldn't be a Disney star. She said "I couldn't jump up and down 24/7 and just be like *giddy gasp and laughter*. I need to cry, I need to feel pain ---- I know...that sounds really weird."

And from that moment on I loved her. She told us not a whole lot about season 2 of Stranger Things, she did however tell us that Barb is for sure dead. She kept making jokes about it and making the whole entire audience sad. She was the most expressive little girl ever too. When she would talk about Leonardo DiCaprio her face was hilarious and basically how my face would be if talking about how I met him. She is basically every single fangirl in the world...except she's a star of a beloved show.

And our last panel of the day was Stan Lee's.

I would be lying if I didn't say I was emotional. Knowing this is his last con circuit pulls on the heartstrings. And knowing what an amazing person he has been to the comicbook universe definitely makes me tear up.

Just listening to him was amazing. He is older so he had to wait to have one of the other panelists explain what was being said to him. But he was quick with the wit. He's the wittiest 94 year old I have ever seen. And honestly I would adopt him as my grandfather.

I learned that his full name is Stanley Martin Lieber. He apparently had been embarrassed by his comics and therefore change his name, but once he become famous for his comics he realized there was no way getting around changing his name back. Can you imagine.....Stan Lee actually being Stanley. I know it's not that far fetched seeing as it sounds the same. But in my mind it's hard to grasp.

Honestly. I am so glad that I met this man and that I went to his panel. He is also super proud of his cameos. He kept bringing them up, and he was always hilarious about them. He claims that Marvel movies do great because if anyone misses the Stan Lee cameo they have to go back and see the movie again. He thinks they should be longer than one scene. He also thinks that they can't be longer than one scene because everyone will realize he is the Clark Gable of the whole film. He is the supporting main character as he called it.

Today was so amazing. I am so sad that tomorrow is our final day at the con. But I'd be lying if I didn't say I was excited...since tomorrow I will be meeting Tom Felton. But nothing will ever beat today. Meeting my all time favorite horror villain and finishing the day off with a Stan Lee panel.

Emerald City Comic Con 2017...so far you've been great.

In the words of the great Stan Lee -- Excelsior!

Marvel’s DOCTOR STRANGE is in theaters everywhere on November 4th!

#CaptainAmericaCivilWar Now Playing in Theatres Everywhere!

Political interference in the Avengers' activities causes a rift between former allies Captain America and Iron Man.

Marvel’s CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR is now playing in theatres everywhere! Trust me, you don't want to miss out on this one. With great characters, actions, comics and Black Panther (super excited to dive into his world), you really need to watch it this weekend.

In celebration of CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR opening, we wanted to share this epic video Disney has shared with us. This video highlights the female stars in the film including Scarlett Johansson (“Natasha Romanoff / Black Widow”), Emily VanCamp (“Sharon Carter / Agent 13”), and Elizabeth Olsen (“Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch”)!

Here are some fun facts:

On June 18, 2015, on the backlot of Pinewood Atlanta Studios, the first scenes of the historic Civil War mash-up began shooting, pitting the Avengers against each other with teams led by Captain America and Tony Stark. Filmmakers nick-named the classic battle the “Splash Panel,” because it was like a double-panel illustration in a comic book. The “Splash Panel” is one of Marvel’s most epic scenes with the most interaction ever seen in a Marvel film. The sequence was shot on IMAX cameras to give fans an unforgettable immersive experience.

The film also features one of the most advanced automobiles in the world, which T’Challa/Black Panther drives. The filmmakers turned to Audi, who provided the production with their newest hi-tech concept car for the shoot. The stunning car has all the newest technology that Audi has but it has never been put into production. Keep an eye out for it in the movie—you won’t see it anywhere else.

A new Super Hero is introduced to the Marvel Cinematic Universe in “Captain America: Civil War”—T’Challa, the Black Panther, played by Chadwick Boseman. The highly anticipated character comes in not agreeing with either side in the Civil War because he has his own agenda. Black Panther will feature in his own standalone film in 2018.

After another incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability, headed by a governing body to oversee and direct the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers, resulting in two camps, one led by Steve Rogers and his desire for the Avengers to remain free to defend humanity without government interference, and the other following Tony Stark's surprising decision to support government oversight and accountability.

On Thursday, April 14, me and 300 or so movie nerds packed into an auditorium to be the first super fans to see a screening of Captain America : Civil War, and I have been dying to tell everyone about it since! Don't worry. I will not spoil anything. Everyone should get to enjoy the film as I did, spoiler-free.

It's a must-see, action-packed, movie. I loved it! Go see it when it opens. Now, to be fair, I would tell everyone to go see it even if I didn't love it because this film is an important cog in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. If you're at all invested in the MCU, like I am, you have to keep watching all of the films.

The Captain American films in the MCU have not been my favorite. To me, The First Avenger was one of my least favorite Marvel movies and The Winter Soldier, while better, still isn't one of my faves. Captain America : Civil War is the best Captain America movie and a great addition to the MCU. It wasn't perfect, but still very good.

I loved the cast. I'm not going to tell anyone which Avengers are in it, in case someone doesn't know, but it's a lot.  All of the favorites are back, in all of their glory, and a few new characters are added. It was super-hero galore!  The introduction of the new heroes worked better for one of the new heroes than the other.  A minor imperfection. Just as an example, when one of the new characters appeared on-screen, the audience cheered audibly. For the introduction of the other new character, no cheers. I don't think that either of the characters was disliked or un-welcomed, I think that one of them needed a bit more explanation.  I'm sure that the fact the I needed more background on one of the new characters means that there will be a new movie with a new origin story, and that isn't a bad thing.

The script was great. Captain America movies tend to have the best dialogue, and this film is no exception.  It's all there.  There are some great heart to heart conversations and funny one-liners. It is all made more impressive by sheer number of Avengers in this movie. The fans, the MCU diehards, were going to know if someone spoke out of character. Thankfully, there was none of that.

The plot kept me entertained. This installment is a sequel to both The Winter Soldier and Avengers : Age of Ultron.  It even ties back to Steve Roger's WWII days. It all works seamlessly.  The story has the right amount of history and the right amount of future.  I had a tiny issue with War Machine's story, but that maybe because I have never cared about War Machine.  To me, War Machine is just an unpainted, lesser version, of Iron Man with none of the personality. The movie is two and a half hours in duration. If War Machine's story was cut down, the movie wouldn't have to be so long.

Nevertheless, by the end of this adventure, there is a definite end to some story arcs and a definite path to future story arcs. The future for the MCU looks good.  I will probably see this again when it opens. Don't forget to stay for the credits. See Captain America : Civil War when it opens on May 6.

Movie Review: 20th Century Fox's #Deadpool

DEADPOOL

Action-Adventure
Release: February 12, 2016
Director: Tim Miller
Screenplay by: Paul Wernick & Rhett Reese
Producers: Simon Kinberg, Lauren Shuler Donner, Ryan Reynolds
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Morena Baccarin, Ed Skrein, T.J. Miller, Gina Carano, Brianna Hildebrand
MPAA Rating: Rated R for strong violence and language throughout, sexual content and graphic nudity
Official Channels: Site | Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | Pinterest
OFFICIAL HASHTAG: #Deadpool
Based upon Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, DEADPOOL tells the origin story of former Special Forces operative turned mercenary Wade Wilson, who after being subjected to a rogue experiment that leaves him with accelerated healing powers, adopts the alter ego Deadpool. Armed with his new abilities and a dark, twisted sense of humor, Deadpool hunts down the man who nearly destroyed his life.

Ha! Where does one begin with this film. Did I love it, heck yes! It's a much needed break from the superhero movies that have been popping out like Pez candy. Deadpool is not the typical good guy fights the bad guys and falls in love with a sweet innocent girl, noooooo and if that's what you expect, then don't bother going to see it. Now if you want to see a guy that was dealt a really crappy deck of cards, then is mislead into something even worse and still comes out cracking jokes left and right with a touch of bloody, then Deadpool is your film.

Ryan Reynolds slays his part as Deadpool. Seriously they couldn't have pick a more perfect actor to represent this marvel anti-hero. Everything we love/hate about Reynolds is amplified in Deadpool. The grittiness of his humor, will leave you in stitches. And just when your laughter begins to calm down, BAM he hits you with another line that sends you doubling over again. Deadpool had me laughing out loud from beginning to end!

There is so much that I loved about the film, I already mentioned Reynolds acting, but the movie itself is brilliant. The delivery is not what your used to. The opening credits are brilliant, when you don't see an actors name but instead a description, such as douche bag or ass hat for director, you know your sitting at the right theater for the right film. Then cue the moments that Deadpool talks to the camera (us) was genius. Seriously the writers were on their A game when they came up with the screenplay!

As far as the story itself, Deadpool is set on finding the guy that turned him into the abomination that he is. He wants Francis (Ed Skrein) to fix his face, so that he is able to go back to the girl (Morena Baccani) he loves, which he left without saying goodbye after he was diagnosed with a terminal disease. So Deadpool stops at nothing and eliminates anyone and everyone that gets in his way (or not). A man in love is hard to defeat and bring down and that's Deadpool. So be ready to watch as he takes on all the bad guys with his swords, guns and humor!

I highly recommend Deadpool if you are looking to be entertained for the entirety of the film and seriously want a freaking good laugh. Now if you have kiddos, I would not bring them along, the R is not exaggerated. You have full nudity, the foulest language and serious gore that you don't want to have to explain to the little ones. Think Ted the movie had a baby with 300 the movie and Deadpool was the bundle of joy, clear enough for ya? lol!!!

Movie Review: 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four

Fantastic Four

Release: August 7, 2015
MPAA Rating: PG-13
Director: Josh Trank
Screenplay: Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg & Josh Trank, based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby
Producers: Simon Kinberg, Matthew Vaughn, Hutch Parker, Robert Kulzer, Gregory Goodman
Cast: Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell, Toby Kebbell, Reg E. Cathey, Tim Blake Nelson
Genres: Action-adventure

FANTASTIC FOUR, a contemporary re-imagining of Marvel’s original and longest-running superhero team, centers on four young outsiders who teleport to an alternate and dangerous universe, which alters their physical form in shocking ways. Their lives irrevocably upended, the team must learn to harness their daunting new abilities and work together to save Earth from a former friend turned enemy.

20th Century Fox has re-imagined the Fantastic Four Marvel characters in a new film. I am a fan of the 2005 version and its sequel, so I went in believing this would be the case again. I will say I didn't hate it, since hate is such a strong word but did I get blown away, no. Honestly I think that the whole premise just didn't connect with its characters and with us the audience. The movie felt like it was pieced together and the timing was very slow for the majority of the film.

In this Fantastic Four, the famous comic book characters are teenagers/young adults that are recruited to work together and complete a teleport machine. Which they are able to and then discover the machine actually traveled to a planet of unknown origins. The whole beginning and part of the middle of the film revolves around that mainly. This is one of my issues, I feel they focused to long on the pre-teleport building/back story and then the rest was rushed and choppy. So moving on after testing a chimp, they are told NASA will take over the machine and that's when Reed Richards, Johnny Storm and Victor Von Doom decided they are not letting anyone else take the credit over what they build. So they call Reed's old friend Ben Grimm, to join them in using the machine while everyone is asleep, they claim it will only be a few minutes and no one will find out.

This is when the movie begins to finally pick up some pace and elements of what I loved from the 2005 film show themselves. They arrive at this planet and instead of heading back right away, the scientists they are they decided to explore and that's when things go very wrong. The matter from that planet is interrupted that flows on the ground and Victor falls into this green substance and is left behind as the rest of the guys jump back in the machine and Sue Storm helps bring them back but not before they are all affected by this planet in some way, even Sue when the machine arrives back at the lab.

Now begins the next chapter of this movie, time passes and the military have been using Sue, Johnny and Ben as weapons and they need to find Reed, that escaped and has been hiding so they can travel back to the planet they are now calling Zero. Reed wants to find a cure for what happen to them but the military wants to harness the power that planet has. So finally Reed finishes the new machine and they travel back to planet Zero and guess who they run into a year later, Victor. They are shocked that he has survived and then realize Victor is not the same Victor anymore. Victor is now Doom and attacks the base when they bring him back, killing many including Sue and Johnny's dad. They now follow Doom back to planet Zero where he begins to suck our plant into planet Zero's atmosphere, with the plan to kill our planet. And well the Fantastic Four battle Doom until they can defeat him and that's pretty much how it ended, no fanfare, no whistles just 'The End'. It was a very weak ending, which I think they left possibly like that to create more movies.

I want to say go out and see this film this weekend, but I just can't mislead anyone. So my recommendations are wait for it to hit Redbox. I really wanted to be blown away but this film just didn't cut it. I think this is the first Marvel characters movie that I did not enjoy like the rest. We are huge Marvel character fans in my household and my boys were bored by this film also. It's funny to think that we thought Antman was the movie that would fall short and it didn't, we actually enjoyed it very much and this film that I had positive hopes for was the one that actually did not entertain us.
