Through the steadfast support of her older sister and supportive trainers, she overcame adversity and the animosity of a patriarchal society to rise through the ranks of the Olympic swimming team and complete the staggering achievement – a 21-mile trek from France to England. “Young Woman and the Sea,” which also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham, Kim Bodnia, Christopher Eccleston, and Glenn Fleshler, is directed by Joachim Rønning and written by Jeff Nathanson, based on the book “Young Woman and the Sea: How Trudy Ederle Conquered the English Channel and Inspired the World” by Glenn Stout. The producers are Jerry Bruckheimer, Chad Oman, and Jeff Nathanson, with John G. Scotti, Daisy Ridley, and Joachim Rønning serving as executive producers.

Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael's children through a difficult time in their lives.
When I was a kid, I was obsessed with Mary Poppins, like so many others of my generation. We grew up watching this amazing magical woman who took us on adventures inside paintings and dancing on rooftops. She taught us how to be politer, that being kind goes a long way, and that if you sing to birds, they sing with you. I used to watch that movie almost every day, sometimes more than once a day. So, imagine my excitement when I was asked to assist the screening for Mary Poppins Returns and write a review about it. I didn’t even blink when I said yes.
I won’t lie, I did not have many expectations for it, I wanted to remain neutral just in case. You know how it is, they make a part two (or reboot) and they change a bunch of things or make it feel like it’s not really part of the same world as part one was. So, I decided to remain neutral and just see how it went. It was great being back in the Banks home and seeing Jane and Michael grown up (the actors really do look like the adult version of the kids we saw in the original Mary Poppins movie many moons ago), but seeing Emily Blunt fly in on a kite (the one Michael had flown as a kid with his dad) dressed as Mary Poppins put a big smile on my face for she looked the part so much it didn’t even feel like it was a different actress. Then she walks into the same house she had done in the first movie and starts to check the dust on the furniture and give everyone a very judging look. At this, I was transported back to being an eight-year-old child and I couldn’t hide my excitement for the rest of the movie. It really felt like a continuation of the original story; it didn’t feel forced or like they tried too hard. It was flawless.
Let me start with Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins. I absolutely love Emily, and I have done so for many years. When I heard she was John Krasinski’s wife, I knew she had to be someone awesome to be married to such an awesome man (back then I knew more about him than her). Then I’ve seen her in several movies and interviews of her, and I fell more in love. Now she played one of the most iconic and loved characters and she did it beautifully and perfectly. She really captured Julie Andrews’ essence and put some of her own into the loved nanny. It made my little heart so happy every time she said “Pish Posh”. I wouldn’t mind a part three with her and just show us another family. Just please bring her back!
Lin-Manuel Miranda plays Jack, who is supposed to be one of the kids that helped Bert clean chimneys. He remembers Mary Poppins and is who takes over the role of the friend of Mary’s who sort of tells the children about Mary Poppins and to not question her much. His role was of a sweet man who was caring and nice to the kids, but is also who steals the show about halfway through the movie with a whole solo song and dance that was just funny and stupendous. The beloved penguins from the first movie come out during his song and are as adorable as ever. I also like that they had him be a little flirty with Jane.
Then there’s a spectacular appearance by Meryl Streep and another surprise (don’t want to spoil it). I love Meryl Streep too and she did a great job and her song is one of the most fun in the movie. Colin Firth as a bad guy is one of my favorite things for I feel he does it so well. He captures you with his charm and charisma then stabs you in the back in the most elegant way.
I loved all the attention to detail they put into the movie: Emily Blunt wears the same apron Julie Andrews did, their attire when they go into the porcelain bowl: their clothes looked as if painted and when they walked you would hear as if they were tapping on porcelain for real, the choreography towards the end was awesome, I really loved it.
In conclusion, I absolutely loved the movie and I would highly recommend it to every one of every age, especially if you grew up watching the original. As per usual, there are some critics out there hating on the movie, but that’s what I call a muggle. Hope you guys go watch it and enjoy it as much as I did.

Aspiring musician Miguel, confronted with his family's ancestral ban on music, enters the Land of the Dead to work out the mystery.
I know I am an adult, but that will never take away my love for kids' movies -especially Disney movies. When I was asked to review this movie, and I saw the trailer, I couldn't wait to be able to see it -and it didn't disappoint, at all! I really loved this movie very much, and I will recommend it to anyone who asks.
I am going to make this review short and sweet so to not spoil anything about the actual movie or plot:
Let's start with the visuals: the colors and the effects are amazing! I loved them! All the colors were so bright and beautiful, and happy. Yes, Miguel goes to the Land of the Dead, but nothing about it is ominous or dark. Disney did a great job of making this movie not scary, but rather fun, funny, and cheery. I don't think there was a single moment that any of the kids in attendance to the screening (including the one I took with) got scared a single time.
The music: the music was also very cheery and vibrant, and they did a great job in including only Mexican-style music. I was worried that it being an American made and produced movie, they'd get something of the culture wrong, or Americanize it somehow, but they didn't. I myself am not Mexican, but I know about it and have watched plenty of movies and listened to plenty of their music to have an idea (thanks to my dad who taught me all of that). The famous singer in the movie is called Ernesto de la Cruz ("the greatest musician of all time!"), and he reminds of one of the most famous Mexican singers: Vicente Fernandez (look him up!)
The plot: The plot of this movie has, of course, a lot of Disney in it and I feared it would be a cookie-cutter plot...but it really wasn't. It starts off being kind of obvious, but then the plot twists and it throws you off a bit. I also love the topics they addressed: family, following your dreams, and to really get to know someone before you judge. There's just one hiccup in my opinion about the plot: the timeframe of when some of the characters lived is a little off, but that seems to be the only thing that was off.
The characters: I loved the characters in this movie! So much Hispanic sass was portrayed in it, and I loved it. One of the main characters is called Imelda and she is as sassy and strong as most Hispanic women are, and I like to think I am like her, and that I have her sass. The main character, Miguel Rivera, is a very sweet and likable boy who is brave and caring, and makes this movie that much more worth it!
The message: my favorite part of doing reviews is talking about the message of the movie. In this movie, I liked that they gave more importance and true meaning to the message and advice that family members to Miguel. In the past, most Disney movies, the main character defies their parents/family and leave crying because "you'll never understand me", and always ends up being right, while the parents/adults aren't. I never lived that message because it's unrealistic and, in many ways, disrespectful. Than you Disney, for changing that typical plot.

Every kingdom comes with a trustworthy advisor or two. John Kani ("Coriolanus," Marvel Studios' "Captain America: Civil War") was cast as the wise baboon Rafiki, and John Oliver (HBO's "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," Comedy Central's "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart") was tapped as hornbill Zazu, Mufasa's loyal confidant. When Simba goes into exile, he relies on two newfound friends—Seth Rogen ("Sausage Party," "Neighbors") lends his comedic chops to naïve warthog Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner ("Billy on the Street," FX's "American Horror Story") joins the cast as know-it-all meerkat Timon.
While most of the animals in the kingdom respect the king, the hyenas have other plans. Captain Jack Sparrow searches for the trident of Poseidon.
When I was 6 years old, I went to Disney World for the very first time. I remember almost every detail about that trip, but one of the things I remember the most is going on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride over and over with my late father. I remember getting on it and telling him how cool I thought that ride was and how I wanted to do it many more times. And we did.
Fast forward to the year 2003 when the very first Pirates of the Caribbean movie –based on the ride I so love –came out. I was ecstatic. To make it even more exciting, my favorite actor, Johnny Depp, plays one of the main characters –and now everyone’s favorite pirate. Throw in this mix Orlando Bloom as another main character and I was more than sold. What does that meme say? Shut up and take my money!
So when I was asked to review the latest installment of this franchise, part 5 (yes, you read it right, part 5 and still going strong), I was more than happy to oblige. I will admit that I was a little nervous, though: it’s a part 5, how many more movies are they going to make? Are they going to ruin it? Will they be stretching it so far that it will finally break? And the answers are: who knows? Didn’t ruin it or break it. In fact, I think this one makes up for part 4, which I didn’t care much for –even though it was basically all about Jack. Let me explain a bit better…
I’ve read other reviews and, as per usual, many critics give it a bad review. I’ve always said that most movie critics only give Oscar-worthy films anything close to a good review. If it’s fantasy, mythical, and/or silly, they will shred it to pieces. See, I disagree completely with that mentality. Not every single movie has to be an amazing dramatic one; there should be humor, and fantasy, imagination beyond drama. Which brings me to Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, which (at least all critics and I agree on this) is incredibly reminiscent to the one that started it all. From the way it begins, the way it all develops, you will be having flashbacks to it, but in a good way.
Henry Turner, Will and Elizabeth’s son, is one of the main characters and he has so much of his father in personality and physical, along with the stubbornness of his mother. Not to mention he is pretty easy on the eyes, just like his dad. He’s also a pretty good pirate and loyal to his word. He is the reason the entire plot of the movie even starts. Then we have Carina, the beautiful (and only) female lead in this movie. I love how independent, smart, and fierce she is, especially in a time when women weren’t allowed to be that way, or they’d be hung for “being a witch.” The chemistry of these two was pretty good and they add more fun to the movie.
Then, of course, we have Captain Jack Sparrow returning for more adventure. In this movie, we have a flashback that explains how Jack becomes a Captain, of how he got his beloved possessions (his hat, the scarf he wears on his belt, and the compass, amongst other things), and why he is so hated by the brilliant Javier Bardem’s character, Captain Salazar, known as “The Butcher of the Sea”. Of course, there are a lot of one-liners and silliness brought to you by Jack, with his antics and crazy stunts that had me bent over laughing. Javier Bardem, as per
usual, is brilliant (and he is amazing at being the bad guy), and quite
terrifying in this movie. I loved his bad guy because he was almost unmatched.
Only Jack Sparrow’s wit is what could outsmart him, and escape his deadly
blows.
Geoffrey Rush also returns as Captain Hector Barbosa with his usual wit to be part of this wild goose chase that ensues; and we also find out a pretty big detail about his past that I cannot say anymore about as to not ruin the movie.
All of that is all fine and dandy, but my most favorite part was the ending. This part I really can’t reveal anymore about because it’s a pretty big deal if you are a fan of the franchise, and have followed the storyline as I have. Just know that they give us a wonderful surprise that had me smiling and wanting to know more about that part of the story. I won’t lie, the post-credit scene (which is incredibly short) does hint at a part 6, but it seems to be more focused on other people for once. I say that no only because of the scene, but because what I’ve read online, it’s supposed to be Captain Jack’s “final adventure” (or something along the lines…but, to be honest, I don’t think that will be true because Johnny absolutely loves playing Jack and I don’t think he’s about to hang his pirate hat if there is another part to be filmed).
As I said earlier, I thoroughly enjoyed this movie: I laughed a lot, had many moments in which I reminisced fondly over the first movie, and the ending had me smiling like a silly schoolgirl. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did –especially if you’re a big fan of the franchise, as I am.
How to spend a Friday night? By hosting a movie night! Thanks to Disney, who sent us a free movie package for The Light Between Oceans, Once Upon a Twilight invited some of our girls from South Florida for a gathering to host this movie. It's funny how it actually turned out to be. Not only were we heading to Universal Studio for Harry Potter Celebration but we were going to host this heartbreaking movie. It was the perfect gateaway for us and we greatly appreciate for being involved.
Once we arrived our destination, our "Harry Potter Castle", according to AirBnB, we were ready to start our movie night. As part of the surprise, we decided to open the box once we reached our rental and cozy up into our pajamas. When we finally did open our package, we were amazed by our package. Disney do not play. They know how to go all out. We were provided candles, tea, slippers, much needed tissues and of course the movie.
As we prepared to start the movie, we pure some wine to our glasses and began the movie. Needless to say, wine and sad movies do not mix. We were all crying, debating what is right and let's say comparing the movie to the book.... What can I say, we are bookworms! Based on a bestselling novel by M.L. Stedman, The Light Between Oceans tells the story of Tom Sherbourne who falls in love with Isabel. Tom is a lighthouse keeper on a remote island and within we see his early stages of his romance with Isabel. Most importantly the story of her miscarriages.
With Isabel's second miscarriage, comes a miracle or not, but boat washes ashore carrying a dead man and a crying baby. Isabel's heartbroken but with the new incomer, she begs Tom to keep the baby girl instead of reporting her to the authorities. As you may have guessed, Tom and Isabel end up meeting the biological mother and they are forced to make a decision that will change them forever.
Needless to say The Light Between Oceans is a very powerful story that will break your heart. Guilt is as strong as love and will drive you into an emotion roller coaster. So if you decide to check this movie out, which I recommend that you do, be sure to have tissues.

This movie is magical!
Pete’s dragon is the story of Pete and his way to a new family. The movie takes you through a magical journey that allows everyone to push the boundaries of reality and submerge yourself into what Robert Redford’s character describes perfectly in the movie as “magic” between Pete, his dragon and his story. Family friendly and at various moments emotional makes Pete’s dragon another Disney hit.
**spoilers ahead**
Once you overlook a few logistics on Pete’s level of speech once he encounters humans after six years, the movie captures you through the eyes of Pete. Pete loses his parents and the only source of knowledge is his book. This book allows him to name Elliot (his dragon) and to continue with this desire to reach out for family, as he feels lost just like the character in his book. This is a brilliant device that allows the movie to carry you through Pete’s transition. Bryce Dallas, as Grace, achieves a bond with Pete’s character throughout the story that allows you to truly feel happy that Pete has found them.
The most emotional moment and what would definitely take out a few tears is Pete realizing that he has to separate from Elliot (“some things are too big to keep”) and that he wants to stay, that they both need to find their own family. And when they do, you get this feeling of fulfilling that only Disney provides through their stories.
