In the year 2051, Faith can move mountains…

Faith Daniels and Dylan Gilmore are in love, and they have a special ability called a pulse: they can move things with their minds. They're caught in the middle of a deadly war with two other pulses: Clara and Wade Quinn, who have joined forces with Hotspur Chance, the most wanted man in the world.

At the start of Quake, Faith and Dylan are holed up in a spectacular abandoned mountain lodge (once used in the film The Shining 71 years before), and their Intel friend Hawk leaves them in the middle of the night, in spite of a newly blossoming love with a girl named Jade. Hawk’s plan is to penetrate the Western State and make contact with a sleeper cell working on the inside that will give them valuable information about Hotspur’s violent plan.

But while Hawk is searching for answers on the inside, Faith and Dylan are still fighting on the outside. In a series of hair-raising battles, the second pulses duel it out, only to raise the body count on both sides. During the battles, Faith and Dylan discover an even great strength: the power of their combined love. Together, Faith and Dylan might just be able to save the world with a quake that is big enough to change the course of history.

Quake is the final installation of the Pulse series. So if you’re looking for a series to read, then you should read the Pulse series! With action-packed  moments and good twists of story, this is a series you do not want to miss. Seriously, Patrick surely knows how to keep his readers entertained.

From the moment I picked up Pulse, I was in for a surprise. I was not expecting to enjoy this book, the first book, as much as I did. The book contains a good taste of romance that is well timed and it leaves you wanting more. Not only this but there is a mystery and well, if you like mystery like myself, then this series will keep you turning to pages.

Quake picks right where Tremor ends. You must read the books in order. In Pulse, we come to learn Gretchen is the leader of the drifters and mother of Dylan. In Tremor, we learn her past and discover Dylan’s father identity. To top this, we learn about second-pulses. In Quake, readers will learn more of the four second-pulses, what they are capable of doing. More like what else they are capable. Just when we think we know where the story is heading, Patrick throws us new information and leaves us unbalance. Yet, wraps everything up nicely.

After finishing Quake… Yeah, I’m still in wonder at the way things ended. Patrick surely knows how to create an action-packed plot. Seriously, he's brilliant. Even though its bittersweet to have this series end, I am happy how things ended. I am looking forward to read more of his work.

Lovers of sci-fi should give Pulse series a try!

Book Review: Tremor by Patrick Carman

Tremor
Pulse #2
Author: Patrick Carman

In the year 2051, some people have a second pulse…

Like all who have “the pulse,” Faith Daniels and Dylan Gilmore have telekinetic powers—they can move objects with their minds. But there are five “second pulses” in the world who have an even greater power: Almost nothing can harm them. They are virtually indestructible.

Both Faith and Dylan have the second pulse. But the other side has second pulses, too, and they’ve been training for a war that has been brewing their entire lives. As Dylan executes a plan to infiltrate enemy grounds, he’ll have to face his only weakness, and a family secret that will threaten his very existence.

Together, Faith and Dylan are the only hope this world has left, but they must go their separate ways in order to accomplish their plan. Will their love survive?

With richly developed characters and heart-pounding action scenes, the second book in Patrick Carman’s Pulse trilogy continues the electrifying dystopian story of love and revenge.

With the revelation the opening chapter contains, I still do not know how I was able to sleep. Tremor is one of those books that demands attention within the very first pages. It was absolutely a fabulous sequel to such a unique and high technological dystopian world.

In the first book, Pulse, we come to learn Gretchen is the leader of the drifters and mother of Dylan. In Tremor, we learn her past and discover who Dylan’s father is. This was crazy to acknowledge. Not only did Dylan survive a fight against two pulses but now he must go to war with new-discover relatives.

Pulse is left off when Cara, Wade fight against Dylan and Faith. All three are second pulses except Faith. She is just learning about being a pulse and barely survived this fight. In Tremor, Faith and Dylan join forces with the drifters to fight against not two but three second-pulses. In the process of training, Faith finally is able to acquire her second pulse. Would this be enough to fight against these three second-pulses along with an army of criminals?

Tremor is full of action and revelations with a great taste of romance. I was not expecting this at all. Usually I find it hard for a sequel to exceed the first novel, but Tremor had no problem at this. Patrick did a phenomenal job with Tremor and I cannot wait for the third installment of this series! I recommend everyone to read Pulse series– a very unique and beautifully written series.

In the year 2051, who has a pulse?

With the help of her mysterious classmate Dylan Gilmore, Faith Daniels discovers that she can move objects with her mind. This telekinetic ability is called a “pulse,” and Dylan has the talent, too.

In riveting action scenes, Faith demonstrates her ability to use her pulse against a group of telekinesis masters who are so powerful they can flatten their enemies by uprooting streetlights, throwing boulders, and changing the course of a hurtling hammer so that it becomes a deadly weapon. But even with her unusual talent, the mind--and the heart--can be difficult to control. If Faith wants to join forces with Dylan and save the world, she’ll have to harness the power of both.

Patrick Carman’s Pulse trilogy is a stunning and epic triumph about the power of the mind--and of love.

Holy mother of all surprises, this book was pretty amazing to read. I was not expecting to enjoy Pulse as much as I did. The mystery and actions, with a taste of good romance, this book was perfectly timed.

One of things I enjoyed about this book is how well you get to learn the characters. I am really not a fan of third person, since most books I read are first person, but this book was simply beautifully written. And the way the world and characters are well described, I really found this captivating.

From the very beginning, we learn Faith Daniel is unaware she is able to move things while she sleeps. But what I got my attention was the mystery of the shadow. Who is watching Faith move things around why she sleeps? Creepy I must say. Let alone unlocked her protected Tablet.

Later we come to learn that this Tablet is they way of life in the future. This is where student are thought their lessons, and pretty much is equipped daily tasks. No matter what you do to this Tablet, it could heal itself. The moment this Tablet goes off, a white van will come to get you to take you to The Western State, a mysterious unknown place. Said what?! You just have to give in to the inevitable! Crazy, right?

So how would a person have access to Faith’s Tablet and read it at night while she sleeps? And why would this person want to know about her?

I love a good mystery book and I really liked this one. Pulse is a very unique dystopian novel, in which we learn very few people have a Pulse, let alone a second pulse. I loved how everything comes together at the end and it brings you a good fight between these four individuals. I cannot wait to learn what Tremor has to offer and which team will conquer. So if you are looking for something new to read, then you give Pulse a try!

Book Review: Eve of Destruction by Patrick Carman

Eve of Destruction
Dark Eden #2
Author: Patrick Carman
Reading Level: YA
Genre: Mystery/Science Fiction
Released: April 24th 2012
Review Source: Katherine Tegen Books
Available: Amazon

Summary: (from goodreads) Will Besting and the other teens who were “cured” at Fort Eden are still experiencing the strange signs of aging
that were a part of their recovery. Now they are being called back to Fort Eden because Mrs. Goring is dying, and
for some reason she wants to see the seven teens together again.

But once Will and the others arrive at Fort Eden, they find themselves ensnared in a dangerous plan to finally end
the reign of Rainsford. Will must lead the group through a perilous underground trap masterminded by two devious
souls. Can he outwit both Rainsford and Goring and find a new cure?
Patrick Carman’s Dark Eden 2: Eve of Destruction is another terrifying journey into the depths of fear, love, revenge,
and—ultimately—redemption.

Fresh new ideas in books are always welcome. Especially, when nowadays, once a topic gets “hot” it seems like many, try to cash in with their own unique version. In the series of Dark Eden, I was greatly surprised to find such a unique way of storytelling. The book itself, Dark Eden 2, is a creepy thriller, which is immaculately written. The characters are very realistic, in a way that they grow and react like an average person. The flow of the book moves along quickly, while at the same time teasing the reader with a great anticipation for the next major event in the plot.

When a group of kids are cured of the their worse fears, all seems well. Sadly, that is not the case. For the cure comes with a heavy cost. The group begins to have serious ailments that usually befall the elderly. With the help of a “mad lady” the kids realize that the price they paid for the cure, is something they could never get back, their youth.

An exciting book about immortality, the author uses another tactic to immerse the reader into his story. With an interactive website that shows videos of scenes from the book, Patrick Carman has done a great job of modernizing his book. With the digital world growing in enormous leaps, Carman does an excellent job of combining the two aspects of literacy, to give the reader a fresh and unique way to get involved into the story.
