Giveaway: The Brightest Stars by Anna Todd - #TheBrightestStars

The Brightest Stars
Published by Frayed Pages, Inc.
In Stores September 18, 2018
Internationally bestselling author Anna Todd returns with a gripping novel about a young woman’s quest to keep her family together, despite the lies that are tearing them apart.

Karina knows the harsh realities of military life. And like anyone who has grown up around an army base, she knows the background noise that follows a soldier home from war. That’s why she’s forging her own quiet life in her own little house. But she hasn’t turned her back on her family. She’s the glue that holds them together—when her father is deployed, when her brother, Austin, has another brush with the law.

Karina knows that she has to look after herself, that she can’t always fix what’s broken. But when Austin’s behavior worsens and her father’s reactions grow more extreme, Karina feels her own edges beginning to fray. That’s when she meets him—a closed book she’s desperate to open.

At just twenty, Kael is a handsome, brooding soldier struggling with the aftermath of two tours in Afghanistan. He’s emotionally damaged and closed off. Quiet doesn’t begin to describe him. But as Karina gets used to his stable presence, she finds it hard to ignore the way he makes her feel. In their time together, she finds the stillness she has always wanted and never found. She lets down her guard. And she lets herself fill in the blanks about this mysterious man.

But illusions quickly made are quickly shattered. That’s when Karina has to find her own courage—to untangle the truth from the lies, and decide what she’s going to do about it.

A riveting story about the love and lies, THE BRIGHTEST STARS will stay with you long after the last page has been turned.

Giveaway: Emergency Contact by Debut Author Mary H.K. Choi + Excerpt

Emergency Contact
By: Mark H.K. Choi
In Stores March 27th 2018
“Smart and funny, with characters so real and vulnerable, you want to send them care packages. I loved this book.” —Rainbow Rowell

From debut author Mary H.K. Choi comes a compulsively readable novel that shows young love in all its awkward glory—perfect for fans of Eleanor & Park and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.

For Penny Lee high school was a total nonevent. Her friends were okay, her grades were fine, and while she somehow managed to land a boyfriend, he doesn’t actually know anything about her. When Penny heads to college in Austin, Texas, to learn how to become a writer, it’s seventy-nine miles and a zillion light years away from everything she can’t wait to leave behind.

Sam’s stuck. Literally, figuratively, emotionally, financially. He works at a café and sleeps there too, on a mattress on the floor of an empty storage room upstairs. He knows that this is the god-awful chapter of his life that will serve as inspiration for when he’s a famous movie director but right this second the seventeen bucks in his checking account and his dying laptop are really testing him.

When Sam and Penny cross paths it’s less meet-cute and more a collision of unbearable awkwardness. Still, they swap numbers and stay in touch—via text—and soon become digitally inseparable, sharing their deepest anxieties and secret dreams without the humiliating weirdness of having to see each other

#Giveaway - Author Karen White's The Night The Lights Went Out Novel

With a plot worthy of Shonda Rhimes and a cast of characters made for Desperate Housewives’ Wisteria Lane, THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT (Berkley Trade Paperback Reprint; March 27, 2018; $16) brings a glinting new edge to White’s signature fusion of complicated family relationships, evocative prose, and picturesque southern locales.

Set in the gilded realm of Sweet Apple, Georgia, THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT achieves a magnetic sense of place, and with good reason—it is the first novel White, the “Queen of southern fiction” (Huffington Post), has set in her own community, the affluent suburbs of Atlanta.

White says: “I was sitting at a stop sign in my town behind a large white SUV and the license plate read YERSERV. . . and the whole Atlanta tennis–suburban mom–thriller idea came to me. . . . I realized perhaps for the first time that my hometown had a past and a story to tell.”

In THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT, recently divorced Merilee Talbot Dunlap moves with her two children to Sweet Apple, Georgia. It’s not her first time starting over. But her new beginning isn’t helped by an anonymous local blog that reveals for the whole town the scandalous affair that caused her marriage to fail. And Merilee’s new landlord, the proud, irascible, Atlanta born-and-bred 93-year-old Sugar Prescott, certainly isn’t helping.

But off Sugar’s property, Merilee finds herself swallowed into Sweet Apple’s most elite ranks—its inner circle of wealthy school moms—thanks to her blossoming friendship with the belle of the town, Heather Blackford. But behind the tennis whites, shiny SUVs, and immaculate women, lurk generations of secrets and resentments. And Merilee quickly learns that, in a town where appearance is everything, sins and secrets can be found in equal measure in the dark woods on Sugar’s property, and within the gated mansions of her newfound friends . . .

THE NIGHT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT is what would happen if ABC’s Revenge followed the machinations of Southern PTA moms instead of Hamptons elite. For readers of Dorothea Benton Frank, Mary Alice Monroe, and Pat Conroy, this novel delivers everything her readers love and more.

Book Review: xo, Zach by Kendall Ryan

xo, Zach
Author: Kendall Ryan
Reading Level: New Adult
Genres: College | Contemporary Romance
Released: January 23, 2018
Review Link: Purchased

The first time we met was at a party.

Your ex arrived to show off the person he'd left you for last month, and you asked me to pretend to be your date.

I was more than happy to help. You were attractive, smart and witty--and that kiss we shared? It left me wanting you for days.

The second time we met was in my office on campus where we were both surprised to discover you were the new master’s degree student in poetry that I would be working with. You promised to be professional. I did no such thing.

The late nights and intense study sessions spent alongside you majorly throw me off my game. I want you, and I fight with myself daily over this fact.

I know I'm crass, that my sexual innuendos and dirty mouth annoy you, but I live for those two bright spots of color in your cheeks. If that's the only reaction I can get out of you, I'll gladly take it.

You hate Mondays so every Monday I slip an anonymous poem into your bag and your smile gets me through the week.

I think I'm falling for you, and I know it's wrong. I know that I'm only supposed to be the adviser to your program and nothing more, but here's the thing. I think you're falling for me too.

xo, Zach

xo, Zach is a very cute story about an adviser and his student in college. The two meet previously one night before finding out they would be paired up at school. So it comes as a shock to them both when they have their first meeting at school. Now how awkward is it, VERY! Zach is very into Poppy, and Poppy is too, but she is more reserved about it. Then add the situation, that they are adviser and student, and its probably not allowed in the school policy. So this has Poppy a bit freaked out. She keeps turning down Zach, but their is only so much she can take. Zach does not give up easily.

The push and pull from these two, is so thick, you can slice it with a knife. They both petty much can't stop thinking (dreaming) about each other, and the more days pass, the stronger the connection. And when Zach starts fighting with poems, how does a girl resist that. Poppy was a goner! Yes, you read that right, he started writing her poems and she could not resit a man, that could write such beautiful words.

So after the push and pull, they finally give in. Well, I should say, Poppy does. Zach was giving up already and about to move on. Poppy finally came to her senses, and gave it a shot. Zach wasn't prepared for Poppy's big surprise. How did he take it? Guess you'll have to find out and read the book to know.

This book is another great one by Kendall Ryan. I love all her stories. She doesn't fail at giving us guys we can't help failing for. This story is cute and a fast read. If you love HEA, then grab xo, Zach today. Forgot to mention, how much I love that title.

#MistressOfAllEvil Is Now Available From Disney Villains Series + Book Series Giveaway

Mistress of All Evil: A Tale of the Dark Fairy
Villains Series, Book #4
By Serena Valentino
Published October 3rd 2017
Recommended for ages 9+

Thanks to Disney-Hyperion for sending me a set of VILLAINS books, and for providing a prize pack!
About Mistress of All Evil (Book #4): Why does Maleficent curse the innocent princess? What led to her becoming so filled with malice, anger, and hatred? Many tales have tried to explain her motives. Here is one account, pulled down from the many passed down through the ages. It is a tale of love and betrayal, of magic and reveries. It is a tale of the Mistress of All Evil.
About the Series: The Disney Villains series by Serena Valentino explores how the antagonists in Disney movies became some of storytelling's most iconic villains. In the first four Villains books, we see how the Evil Queen, the Beast, Ursula, and Maleficent fall into darkness, through the instigation of the mysterious Odd Sisters: Lucinda, Martha, and Ruby.

What are your "WICKED" Halloween plans this season?

This year I'll be attending a Halloween party themed "Shipwreck on KilliGan's Island!" Get it? Like the old TV series "Gilligan's Island". My friend and I will be dressing up as characters from the movie Black Swan that starred Natalie Portman. I will be the Black Swan (the evil one of course) and my friend will be the White Swan (the innocent one).

I have always wanted to be Maleficent for Halloween, maybe next year I'll finally do it. I absolutely love the Maleficent that Angelia Jolie portrays in 2014's Maleficent. So what are your costume(s) for this Halloween? Share in the comments below.

Serena Valentino has been weaving tales that combine mythos and guile for the past decade. She has earned critical acclaim in both the comic and horror domains, where she is known for her unique style of storytelling, bringing her readers into exquisitely frightening worlds filled with terror, beauty, and extraordinary protagonists. The books in her best-selling Villains series are best enjoyed when read in the following order: Fairest of All, The Beast Within, Poor Unfortunate Soul, and Mistress of All Evil.

The city of Boston has become a slave to the infected--humans that have slowly turned into monsters with only one thing on their mind, consuming flesh.

Samara has loved the reckless and wild Trevor since she was fourteen years old. The same goes for Trevor; he loves Mara fully and has always been the rock that holds everything together.

Until the day comes when he can't anymore.

In the midst of a global pandemic; Samara is torn between love and death, her head and heart and now she's left with two choices and one epic decision. She can either save herself or give up everything--including her life.
